NFL, biggest surprises

Postby Tikker » Mon Dec 18, 2006 3:25 pm

obviously, New Orleans and 49ers are playing shockingly good ball

Alex Smith is looking not too shabby at all, and wtf, frank gore?

ps, Jeff Garcia has been surprisingly good too

Roy Williams has been exposed repeatedly this year as a linebacker playing safety

I think you also have to put the good play of Vince Young, and the now resurgent Tennesee Titans up there as well.

How inconsistent the Seahawks team is a BIG surprise to me. Have to put Tony Romo up there as well. If you would have told me afew games into the season Dallas would sub their QB, and be on top of the division after week 15 i would have called you an idiot.

eh, nfc is a joke

seahawks can win their division at 8-8

but yeah, I think Romo and Young (and maybe even leinart) would make the list

maybe Mario Williams being unbelievably bad, heh

Young did absolutely nothing in their win against the Jaguars.

Another surprise is that the Eagles are winning with Jeff Garcia.

Jeff Garcia is a journeyman system QB. He does decently in a west coast system surrounded by talent, and has a lot of knowledge from a long career, but I wouldn't call him a great QB.

There are a lot of great subplots going into the postseason making things interesting.

Dallas is strong, but their secondary is weak and vulnerable.

Chicago has been decimated by injuries on D, and is not the same team they were 6 weeks ago.

San Diego is stout, but I'm not sold on Rivers being able to win a game in the clutch.

Indy still has a woeful rush D. If Cincy had pounded the rock with two TEs, even with Willie Anderson out, they had a shot to win that game.

New England has Belichik, but I doubt he can overcome the mediocrity at WR on that team, and the age of their D. Taylor and Freeney have shown the blueprint to stop Brady, too.

My sleeper Super Bowl team is Baltimore. I think they have the most balance, a Pro Bowl calibre clutch QB, and a D that can play with any of the top teams. Baltimore can beat any team on any day. The problem is they can also lose to any playoff team, so it really falls to how Billick gameplans.

This has really been a fun NFL year.

the same can be said for 95% of players in the league

there was a good article by Cris Carter of all people that talked about that

They turned out to have one of the easiest schedules in the league too. Pennington has played pretty well though, and they have a good group of young players.
