Bit-torrent has always been P2P. Sorta like Kazaa on steroids, though, as you can get multiple feeds and provide feeds to multiple others. You can't get a virus that isn't included in the original package to begin with. You can't get a single file that isn't in the original package... it's the way the seeding and checksum algorithims work. It's as safe and secure as the package was originally created to be.
Now, if someone puts a virus-laden package out and it's seeded and distributed... then naturally you will be downloading the same virus... for that reason, only download packages from trusted or verifiable sources.
