How much longer will WOW be in beta...

and will their be character wipes before any of the future phases?

I'm curious if anyone has seen Blizzard's short/long term plans?

I don't think they even know. They've said they would like to avoid character wipes if possible. They're still looking to release by the end of the year...

I think doing character wipes between phases of beta would be good.

Having a bunch of people maxed out, and not testing changes to classes seems a waste, to me.

Except that would cater to the powergamers and fuck the part time players, which make up 90% of the population of these games.

You dont design a game for 1% of your target audience.

They've posted that they will try not to do any character wipes, that if it becomes necessary what they'll do is lock current characters, making you start over, and unlock them later. It would not surprise me at all if they did just that for the last phase of the beta, once they've got most/all of the content in, and are starting the open beta, so they can get an idea of speed of progression in a crowded environment, how character development goes when everyone has talents from L1, and there's no caps til 60 where people sit and farm gear over and over.

Apart from that, I can pretty much guarantee they'll wipe before release, but that's pretty much a given. They haven't said at all when they plan on releasing it yet, nor how long the beta is going to be. Remember, this IS Blizzard, and they're well known for pushing back releases of games if they aren't ready yet. Personally, I like that strategy FAR more than the SOE planning, as exhibited with Luclin, of "I don't care if it is so buggy it crashes every 5 minutes, and has so many showstoppers as to be unplayable, it WILL be out the door on the official ship date!" All that said, my guesstimate is that they're aiming for a Xmas release, probably sometime early-mid December.

Except Blizzard is run by Vivendi, and doesn't call the shots anymore. Plus, the people who developed their early games and ran the show back then are long gone.

Vivendi is bleeding, and it wouldn't surprise me to see WOW released before the devs want it out.

Its a shame they don't do a character wipe with every phase in beta. I honestly can't see any reason why they wouldn't.

Well, they do want to take it easy on all those uberguild friends they invited into WOW beta the first week it was open, so they can look cool and learn the sploitz before their core audience. 8)

Someone offers 300+, they're more than welcome to mine. Heck, 250 might do it.

I've played and enjoy it, but cash is cash.

Its just a beta account...
