Lag last night

Postby Donnel » Thu Nov 11, 2004 9:33 am

Took me about 9 tries to find a server I didn't immediately crap out on.

Got booted from 6 of them, the other two I had to CTRL-ALT-DEL from because they didn't recognize a log off command.

Is that normal?

And it wasn't computer lag at all, I was getting "unknown entity" when I clicked on an NPC or PC.

I mean, I was rather impressed in the past with the system performance (didn't much care for the gameplay as i've already played EQ once), but last night was just horrible.

Seems like a common theme on the stress servers. There's simply too many people playing and not enough servers. Beta Server 1 is like a ghost town now, probably only 1000 people online and no lag at all.

My comment to our TeamSpeak Server.

"Looks like they could have used about 10-15 more servers for open Beta."

People are gonna get the wrong impression from OB and not want to play with all that lag.

It was that debilitating.

I'm guessing that the majority of bnet kiddies will fade away once money enters the equation. Some will manage to find their mommies credit cards, or maybe even a few will be bright enough to locate game cards, but I'm not going to sweat it.
Can't be any worse than playing on the Nameless~

Cancelling my pre-order for fear of retards would mean the terrorists have won :P

Well....after major hassles downloading the OB client (almost 3 days, even after a friend gave me access to his Fileplanet account) I finally try to install the game and, of course, there's a patch.

Patch downloads, eventually, and tries to install. I get a message that some file or other doesn't match and am told to uninstall and reinstall. I do this and try again. Same message on a different file. Try again, and yet again on yet another file it geeks. So I'm done even trying.

Make that 499,998 accounts. :)

In this case you are completely right. I got my ass handed to me by the internet.

I didn't bother signing up for open beta or stress test. I'm content to just wait for live release (got CE on pre-order, but I may end up downgrading to regular. I dunno yet...), and didn't think spending hours and hours downloading files and patches just to play for an extra week or so was worth the hassle.

Besides, I'm already happily occupied with CoH (started back up with it Halloween weekend), and Metroid Prime: Echos comes out on Tuesday. My game time until WoW live release is booked solid (for once... damned strong-4th-quarter marketing bullshit...grumblemumble..).

Well the client that is presently downloadable is supposed to be workable with live version, you will just have to punch in your key to activate it at that time.
