Since dieting this week (and doing my incline!) I have lost 5-7 pounds so far. Weight has been up and down, and was told it is because of fluid intake for that day? This sound right? Anyway earlier I weighed myself and I was 7 pounds total since Sunday. :cheering:

I think you're supposed to weigh yourself at the same time every day. Ideally after you wake up and before you eat and drink.

Let me add that a lot of people get wrapped up strictly in weight, and they should focus more on body fat %. Seeing as fat content is directly proportional to attractiveness, rather than simply overall weight.

I think my best friend is putting too much emphasis on the number, she will call me and tell me about having gained a full lb over a weekend even though she ate well. I don't even own a scale and the way she keeps track of her physical lbs keeps me from wanting one. I could easily see myself getting caught up in that in the wrong way.

well there are a couple ways to keep track of body fat, easiest way unless you belong to a gym is to buy a scale that does it for you.

I've never heard of a scale that measures body fat. Where can I find one? I don't belong to a gym anymore and would much rather go by fat content versus weight.
Also are they costly?

The fat measuring scale i have seen cost between 50 and 90 dollars. Although, some models do cost more over 100. I dont know much about them or how they work. I am curious on how accurate they are.

Interesting, thanks for the find Pleghm. I wonder how accurate they are versus the calipurs. Here was a link to how they work. http://www.heartmonitors.com/body__impedance.htm
I'm surprised that they weren't more costly.

Just answered my own question on how accurate they are....if the information they give isn't biased.

What's your opinion Mop?

Ok, I did a little research on how the way body fat scales work. Basically, body fat scales work on the principle of conductivity. They send a painless electrical signal through your feet; since the current moves more quickly through muscle than through fat, the body fat scale uses the speed at which the signal travels to determine your fat-to-muscle ratio.

They work fairly well if:

You are well hydrated
You have not been working out
You messure yourself the same time every day ( not first thing in the morning as you are probally dehydrated. )

They have a + / - of 6 % so if you take it the same time for a week strait and get the average number it should be correct.

It sends an electric singnal through your body to help messure the amount of fat since fat sucks at conducting. it does not take into account bone mass ect.

If you do belong to a gym a much more reliable way ( depending on the person doing it) is a calipure test - which they take skin fold and figure out your fat.

You can buy them almost anywhere - I know target sells them I believe we got ours there.
