Lower ab question

Postby Oofdaa » Mon Jul 04, 2005 6:48 am

Last year I had a c-section and I've been struggling to get my lower abs back into shape. I've lost the 40 lbs I gained during the pregnancy with about 10 more vanity lbs to go, but right above where my incision is I have a very unlovely flap ( :( ) of skin that hangs over .

I do cardio on my stairmaster, lift small weights and just do a general ab excercise. Is there something I can do to target this area and get rid of the ugly? Or at 35 have I lost the elasticity in my skin and have to start a plastic surgery fund?

If you do heavier weights you will burn more fat in the long run - and no you wont bulk up, at most you would show more tone in your muscles.

And dont cheat on the stairmaster =)

Mop - You might want to let her in on how it is possible to cheat on the stair master
ie - putting pressure on your hands holding the rails, leaning forward, stepping shallow, etc. I'd try other forms of cardio too so your body doesn't just get use to one thing. Lift heavier.. small weights are for whimps =) Check this site out:

Personally I'd give it a year of really trying to consistently workout and then if you still feel the need for plastics after that - go for the TT.

my mom has this also, but I watched a show on this on Discovery not long ago and they said you do not have to have that, but it's tough to work.

lie on your stomach and be sure to support yourself with your lower abs (entire region of course) but concentrate on pushing (not forcefully) your hips into the floor. Be sure to hold yourself up with your ab muscles. with your right arm under your chin, lift the left arm and right leg slightly off the ground. alternate sides of course. this helps the lower abs and the back at the same time.

on your back, supporting your body with your butt and back, and leaning back on your elbows, do those tough-this-hurts-like-hell leg lifts or "six inches" as they call them.

also, and this is a good one once you get the hang of it, but you have to do it properly or it isn't effective. lie on your back, with your knees bent. Lifting your tush off of the ground using your lower muscles (in the pubic region) is great for that area. I've been doing this for a long time but not seeing results, but then I started putting my hands on top of my lower tummy, and now I can tell when I'm using enough squeeze.

anyway, that is what I know about it...good luck
