ya.. i can't believe that #1 is the eggs benidict. I love that as well as probably 3/4 of that list. I guess we just need to find the healthy versions of those items and exercise portion control.. that or you guys can still splurge every so often. I think the real problem is when people are eating those foods multiple times every day.
I know when I was an IT consultant at Anderson and always on the road we had a nice little slush fund and meal allowence. We had stuff like alfredo and lasagna every night plus apps and dessert. I put on 50lbs just during that year I worked for them.

Wtf chicken hash?? /puke - no thanks.
Also, I seriously doubt 99% of the people in this country dine regularly on foie gras, fondue, and duck confit - those shouldn't even be in the list. They are party/special occassion foods and most of the time are served as hors 'devours or to accentuate the main dish. Who the hell sits down and eats 2 ducks worth of duck confit?

Bingo.

The main reason these foods are on a "danger" list is because people do indulge in foods like these every day, eat large portions of it, and typically, because of busy lives, are quick to turn to take-out or store-bought versions instead of taking the time to make them at home.

Lasagne, for example: Typically, it's served with no side dishes - it's just one huge piece of lasagne, and that's dinner. It's too much. Instead, there should be a salad or some kind of vegetable accompaniment, maybe soup, etc - something else to fill you up, and then the small square of lasagne. Also, when it's homemade, it's very easy to make a really healthy version of it. Whole wheat noodles, part-skim ricotta cheese, part-skim mozzarella, lots of vegetables, 1/4-1/2lb of lean meat (in total for the entire pan), and homemade marinara sauce that has no additives/preservatives/red lake #40/etc.
My husband loves this version and thinks it tastes so much better than the standard (which for him is saying something). It has 1/4 of the calories compared to anything you'd get in a resturant (or would typically make with tons of mozzarella, ground beef/sausage, etc), has more nutritional value overall as well, and imo tastes better.

Everything in moderation - that is the key.
I don't think it's a problem to splurge once in a while, just like with desserts, but it's important not let it become a routine part of your diet.

sweet lord some of that stuff is nasty. i agree with trielelvan with a healthy alternative.
my pasta (which i have an addiction to now and eat everyday) consists of:

whole-wheat pasta (100g serving), chilil flakes, capers, olives, romaine lettuce, some black pepper, 5.0z lean roast chicken and mixed with safflower oil.
