Janet - Are you really serious.. I mean completely totally commited to making changes with your eating? Do you just want to complain or do you really want sound advice so that you can have a healthier lifestyle? Unless you are living in some sort of 3rd world country you have got to know by now how important it is to eat minimally 3 meals a day and breakfast being the most important. For some people eating 6 smaller meals a day actually works better. Avoid concentrated sweets, avoid calorie dense saturated fat foods (ie - fries), use portion control, choose whole grains, make sure you are drinking enough fluid.... You have heard of all fo these.. Right? I know you have cause you mention a little about some changes. Problem is I don't think you follow that consistently.

Most of the time we know what is good for us. It is making the behavior changes to apply what is good for us that is the key.

So now the real question from me: Instead of asking how can I have more energy you need to be asking yourself if you are willing to make some changes in your behavior to support eating healthy which would lead to better energy and all sorts of benefits you get from making changes. Those changes don't happen over night but if you are willing to make them they will happen. Your first goal would be to start eating breakfast - no excuses. Example: Oatmeal OR cottage cheese + yogurt or fruit OR low carb english muffin with egg and slice of low fat cheese OR healthy ceral (NOT LUCKY CHARMS.. try something like Kashi). Make sure to get in 8-12 oz of water or some sort of non caloric liquid when you wake up.. herbal tea .. etc.

After you have started to eat a healthy breakfast every day for a week then come back to this thread and I can give you behavior change tip #2 =)

EDIT: One more thing to breakfast. Add in a good multivitamin and take it after breakfast every morning.

Side note...my kids LOVE Kashi

Makes me think I'm doing at least something right when they like the healthy stuff. ;)

Someone just reminded me about Kashi yesterday. Its good you don't load the kids up on sugary cereal in the morning. Also nice to know they like it. Believe it or not cheerios is actually a good choice too. All of them. I like the berry ones.

my kids will NOT eat sugary cereal. they can hate me all they want but my household will be HEALTHY, dammit. 'sides which, if you start 'em on it early, it'll seem normal to them. which healthy eating should be.

i've become sort of a health food nut myself, and trust me, kiz, when you start eating right and exercising, everything else just sort of falls in order. i have never felt more healthy than i do at this point in my life, thanks to drastic changes in my eating and exercising habits. another thing is, you can't look at changes like this as a "diet" but as a way of life. if you make healthy permanent changes, you can't HELP but be healthier in the long run. and i know it sounds like i'm being preachy but trust me, i know from experience--just ask the 70 lbs i've lost in the last 14 or 15 months. i feel great now, and i don't think i could go back to my old ways if i tried. i'm still not entirely satisfied with myself appearance-wise, but physically, i feel like a new person.

good luck to you!

I admit every once in a while I'll break down and buy a sugary cereal, but it's a rare occasion. Cheerios, shredded wheat, Kashi, oatmeal, etc is what we generally buy.

wow Leah, I had no idea either - it definitely explains your obsession with your last 15, though.. i'm the same way

About 4 years ago I lost around 55 pounds, give or take a few - a medication I was on forced me to go from 125 - 195 in a timespan of about 2 months, and I got to a point where I couldn't take it anymore.. so I lost the weight, but I never could get back to the 125 - I ping from 140 to 155 (155 being my =( stage, which is what I'm in now) and I'm absolutely obsessed with getting back to around 135 at least - I absolutely hate it, so I can definitely feel what you're going through there. Bathing suit season is coming up though, so this weight has got to go!

Yeay for all the obsessive compuslives!! Sigh.. sucks doesn't it? I could preach and say toss the scale but I am not going to bother. I know what it is like. Just remember what counts is how you feel and go by how your clothes are fitting/inches.

doubt it.

and honestly, i really shouldn't even bother worrying about the last 15, i've been told over and over that i look great and don't need to worry about it and yada yada yada, but honestly? it's a matter of bringing something to completion. i started this, i'm gonna finish it. it's as much for my own personal sanity as it is for my appearance. we'll see, though... the last few are definitely taking a lot longer than i'd hoped. :(

You better finish it because I'm going to keep scorning you until those 15 are gone. Even at 14 lost. FINISH IT!

See that's the thing, though - it's not about what other people tell you, it's gotta be about what you think when you look in the mirror. It's rough, let's start a support group!

i definitely think we should.

i've always been surrounded by effortlessly slim people, and it's been really shitty to go through the last year by myself. it makes me feel like a strong person for doing it on my own, but i have always wished to have someone to lean on during the rough spots.

well, i spose i do have my mom. she's been a big help.

at any rate, i have a goal of june-ish for the last little push--right into the height of swimming season--so i have been busting my ass the past few weeks and hopefully it's gonna come to fruition.

that's where my goal is too, leah

if you're looking for easy low-fat things to cook, i could send you a virtually effortless recipe for chicken pasta primavera that's really low in fat, made with whole grain pasta is great - recipes seem to be the hardest for me since I cook for 2, and half of the 2 prefer fat-filled recipes and hate veggies >< i'm always looking for better things to cook to avoid eating out, but it's so hard to find good flavorful recipes that are low in fat without using crap like onions and a bunch of fancy pants stuff - i never was fond of complicated meals.. simple for the win

hehe i eat like a rabbit. it's really convenient for me in my living situation because none of us (there's four altogether) are ever really in the same place at the same time altogether so we never actually prepare meals... krystal eats 93 packages of ramen a day (but she's also lil tiny size 0, i swear to god. she weighs about 104 pounds *grr*), matt eats pizza when he's at work at papa john's, and ashlie eats arby's once a day and calls it good.

me, i eat considerably low-carb. i eat more salads than you can shake a stick at, healthy meats, lots of eggs, homemade soups, sandwiches on whole-wheat bread, all kinds of stuff like that. also i'm generally full of vegetables at any given moment, and i drink water like it's going out of style. i'd like to expand my horizons a bit but DAMN i'm poor hehe
