Whoo hoo.. just felt like screaming that from the rooftops. Recovery has been going great. Thanks to Dana for being so supportive these last few weeks! Surgery was Tue.. was home from the hospital by Thursday. I feel better with each passing day! Already started getting good walks in and hope to be back in the gym next week doing some light workouts.

Did you have stapling surgery? Or was the surgery unrelated and weight loss just a by product.

she had a RNY Gastric Bypass, basicaly they give her a one once pouch in her stomach that can hold food over the next year it becomes a 6- 8 oz ( normal portian) stomach. THey also shorten the intestenial track to 7ish feet.

weight loss at the early stages it is easier than after 1 - 2 year point.

I thought gastric bypasses were for people that were morbidly obese (everyone I know that had one was over 300 lb.) I wouldnt think that Her Stayceness would need one....

She is one of the lighter patients her doctor has treated - that isn't saying much though the past year has been rough for her- she was fine until about sept when she started to gain weight on our honeymoon (insert joke about all women gaining weight after a wedding) unfortunatly it caused some lower back and knee injuries that were compounded by her over doing it in the gym thus creating a circle that is all to familiar in overweight people with eating disorders - Gets well, goes to gym and hurts self trying to get back in shape, gets frustrated.

No she wasn't 300+ lbs, she knows the shit but has not applied it at all the past 8 months and it was honestly the best solution for her health to get her back in the gym, I could care less about the first 8 months that is easy it is after that point she is going to have to make sure she doesnt fuck around. I honestly wish she would stop being so happy bout loosing weight when there is no way you can't loose weight at the moment, it isn't an accomplishment, 2 years from now being able to run and keep the weight off is 10000times more important. (See Al Rocker weight gain)

The other problem was that she thought she could eat what I would eat...even when she wasnt working out- She would not work out and eat what I would eat close to the same portion sizes, trust me a 1600 calorie diet vs a 4500 cal diet is huge.

What food makes women loose all desire for sex and gain 100 pounds... wedding cake. Always loved that joke...

Seriously tho, all the pics I have seen of Her Stayceness she looked rather hawt to me :dunno: sometimes I think you fitness freaks take this shit a bit too seriously.

I would also like to add this, 25% of all people that have this surgery will beat it and gain the weight back - it is not a fix all it is a temp tool to get back on track.

there is a very small % of people that have taken advantage of this tool imo - from what I read & hear from stacy - there is probaly 30 % of people that have really changged their lives, I think the 25% weight gain number will go up over the next 10 years due to people to focused on the short term solution and not the actual problems of food addiction / not moving through out the day (laziness) / poor food choices/ ect.

I perosnaly am against this surgery for the most part there are a few cases out there like Stacy who need the tool to address some of these issuies, and will actualy do something about it. Other than that I would only suggest it as a latch ditch effort for ones health - the most important part isn't the weight loss - it is the oppurtunity to change ones lifestyle to create a new person so to speak.

For Venne -

Stacy was down to around low 230s before our wedding and ended up getting to 281 when she finaly went in for her surgery. She doesn't look 'giant' at 230 and holds alot of muscle ( was benching more than some guys) but still carried alot of body fat, the only difference is - she has lost alot of that muscle and gained alot of fat.

It wasnt like she was 170 ls trying to loose 30 lbs.

She honestly needs to loose at least 120 lbs to get ack into a healty BMI

Well holy shit Mop.. you went post happy today on this thread
and did not tell me!

Pounds are not the primary motivator. It is about my health, being in the gym, being active. You all know this. I talk about fitness all the time. I was sick of the injury cycle. I can't lie though that I am excited to see the scale go down. I'm not going to be ashamed for that.

MOP READ: The lbs lost confirms that this "Tool" aka pouch they created is doing its job. THIS IS WHY I WANT TO SCREAM FROM THE ROOFTOPS!Yes I knew it would work when I did it but again to actually feel and experience it working is why I am so happy. It gives me the inspiration for that long term success. The pain, drinking my food for these first two weeks, following the rules, networking with all thes other weight loss surgery patients, going to support groups for it, seeing the nutritionist, all the crazy ass pre-op work... its all paying off already in my head and my body. A scale is just an additional confirmation that it is working for now.

I've been told I look great by many, never had trouble getting boyfriends (too many sometimes), smart, very outgoing, confident person, etc. However, I have always been overweight since puberty and more then 100lbs overweight (220 or greater) for the last 10 years at a mere 5'4. When I divorced my first husband I had blown up to 283... my all time highest. For three years I exercised and worked hard. By our wedding I was actually about 235 but lots of muscle. Gained lots of weight starting from the honeymoon in October on the cruise through Christmas. I was eating the same portions that MOP was while he was triathalon training. CRAZY! THey just got bigger and bigger. It seemed as if I was always hungry too. Both physical and head hunger. They are differnt though and this procedure helps give you the time to recongnize those two. See article a few pgs back that I posted on emotional versus physical eating. Anyway, after I got into that injury cycle along with starting to have other co-mobities creeping up again like high blood pressure and joint pain.

I was 280 on Sunday April 17th - 2 days before my surgery.
Today I am 267. So thats is down 13 lbs. Nah.. no big deal.. COME ON NOW! I have a right to be excited. This is a huge new start for me!
I will succeed this week and 2 years out and 10 years out and forever after. Failure is not an option. No way that I would completely change my plumbing and take all these risks just to fall back in old habits of eating big portions or going through that injury cycle and turning into a perma-couch-tater!

I thought most of you here knew I had gastric bypass already btw. I had posted it in past threads here and have been very open about my decision.

This is the link to my profile on OH that goes into my whole story, has pictures, diagram of the surgery, journal, etc... http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesit ... 1104686271

Anyway, thanks for the support.

You bet I will post pics! Before & After. I will come back and share my progress in the coming months as well. My 1st post op visit to my surgeon is May 3rd at 1pm. Will get my BP done then and hopefully see some more milestones there as well then just the lbs.

Already got in a 30 minute outing/walk tonight at the store and bought a bunch of plants. I plan to do a little gardening tomorrow.

The number is about 30% that don't loose all their weight or regain back. But lots of arguments on the number being lower and some saying higher.
This also includes mechanical (problem with the surgery) failure as well as failing to make the behavior changes necessary or beating the pouch.. like drinking water with food and flushing it out of the pouch or grazing on food all day long so that you never get full and consume too many calories.

Thanks! I'll do a weekly weigh in an just alter the tittle to this same thread.
Do have a weird side effect the last few days. Every am I wake up now or if I take a nap and wake up my feet and hands feel like pins and needles and are ice cold. Seems like a circulation issue. Not sure if it is anemia and I need and iron supplement or if its just my nerves out of wack after surgery. Left a msg for my surgeon to call me. Really low energy today too but thats to be expected with all the stuff I was doing yesterday. I overdid it with the sping cleaning all evening and then the gardening and walk.
