LOS ANGELES - A group representing religious schools in the state is suing the University of California admissions officials for allegedly discriminating against high schools that teach creationism and other conservative Christian viewpoints.
The Association of Christian Schools International, which represents more than 800 schools, filed a lawsuit Thursday in federal court claiming UC officials have refused to certify high school science courses that use textbooks challenging Darwin's theory of evolution.
The suit said the Calvary Chapel Christian School in Murrieta, a co-plaintiff, was told its courses were rejected because they use textbooks printed by two Christian publishers, Bob Jones University Press and A Beka Books.
Wendell E. Bird, an Atlanta attorney who represents the association, said UC policy is violating of the rights of students and religious schools.
"A threat to one religion is a threat to all," he said.
UC spokeswoman Ravi Poorsina said she could not comment, because the university had not been served with the suit. Still, she said the university has a right to set course requirements.
"These requirements were established after careful study by faculty and staff to ensure that students who come here are fully prepared with broad knowledge and the critical thinking skills necessary to succeed," Poorsina said.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Those twats are going to get laughed out of court.
Honestly, I hope more Universities do this. Would be the perfect antidote for braindead boards of education like in Kansas. "Sure, you can change your science requirements for high schools to no longer require teaching actual, you know, SCIENCE, but we're not going to count those courses as meeting our admission standards. So, all of your kids are going to be a big step down for getting into college." I would laugh for days.
Again, I don't care what religion people are, but you can't repackage religion and call it science, because, well, it's not.
