Bush vs Gore

Postby Menlaan » Sun Apr 01, 2007 1:13 pm

I was talking with a friend of mine who is a Republican, and the topic of the Bush vs Gore Presidential election came up. I mentioned that Gore won the popular vote, and she strongly disagreed saying that maybe the liberal biased CNN reported that, but that it wasn't true. I notice that wikipedia does say that Gore won a plurality over Bush. But I didn't realize that the popular vote was controversial.

So do you agree that Gore won the popular election?

Interesting. I did a search on Fox News, but couldn't find anything about this. Is there a Conservative site somewhere that says that Bush won the popular vote as well as the electoral college?

Gore had more overall votes than Bush, yes, but due to the fact we are 'United States' and each state has electoral votes, then it matters who wins what states. Both had around 48% of the votes.

Gore did not get a majority. Neither did Bush. There were a lot of irregularities in that election, so if the real numbers were out, including the wrongly tossed military vote which is always overwhelmingly GOP, then its possible Bush would have had more overall votes than Gore. If Gore had won Ohio or Florida, that wouldn't have mattered either.

In election terms, 2000 was a statistical dead heat. The only thing that matters is which candidate gets 270 Electoral votes.

Oh, I agree that Bush won the electoral college, and therefore won the Presidency. But I was shocked at the insinuation that Bush had ALSO won the popular vote. I had thought it was widely accepted that Gore won a plurality of the popular vote.

I wouldn't even bother searching for a conservative site Menlaan, just point your friend here:

Bush was born in Connecticut. His family moved to Texas when he was a little kid. He did went to some prep school in Massachusetts. He then attended Yale. He also got an MBA from Harvard Business School.

It's no surprise this is the view you would have on the subject considering the vast majority of electoral corruption came from your cronies.

Electoral fraud must not be a very important issue to conservatives though, what with you guys being better at lying about it.

For the record, I'd say both sides are fairly close in trying to cheat the system as much as possible. They are both political entities. I think it probably equals out.

I've said my views on Electoral Fraud, and I think it's a travesty third world countries have better elections than we do. However, any time safeguards or ID is attempted to be put into place, the media and ACLU seems to think it's an evil plot to suppress people. I can see how it'd be tougher for dead people to vote without valid IDs, though.

I disagree. The electoral college means states votes and individuals votes matter.

We'd have a better effect if we prosecuted mass media conglomerates for wrongly declaring political races hours before polls closed, which has more of an effect than the electoral college.

the electoral college was set up by our fouders because most people are too stupid to vote... actually it was so smaller populactions could have a voice not just new york and other major metropoli

imho giving everyone the right to vote just because they had a birthday is just asking for trouble
