It's not because of Black Power but more because it represents a demographic that isn't otherwise represented elsewhere. It's the same reason they have a History Channel, a Sci-Fi Channel, Spike (a male channel), a Womens Network, etc...

Caucasians don't represent a demographic so aside from your feigning the victim over nothing,

that's seriously some of the stupidest shit I've ever seen written anywhere

You think white America isn't represented on other networks?

You can't deny that racism is still an underlying problem in many sectors of our society and culture. It does still exist.

HOWEVER

It has also become a crutch for many who see it as a scapegoat for not applying themselves.

There is a double standard (in favor of minorities) that we see on a daily basis.

Al Sharpton can talk about "honky this and honky that" - and that's fine. No one says anything, there's no real outrage. But, let someone like Imus say "Nappy headed ho" and suddenly there's a problem.

The American white culture has been reminded over and over about the tragedy of slavery and made to feel guilty about years of oppression. This has lead to it [us] cow toeing to the whims of opportunist who either has a political agenda or is simply for an easy hand out.

Sorry to break to you - no one alive today was a slave in the 17/1800's. No one alive today owned slaves in the 17/1800's. *I* don't 'owe' you anything. Not an apology and certainly not a free ride.

Now, the older generation (those who were alive and well in the 60's and before) do indeed have a right to bitch, but strangely they're silent. In fact, at least in my area, it's the younger 30/40/20 somethings that raise the most hell can cry "racism" every time the local creamery runs out of their favorite flavor of ice cream.

There's not a culture on this planet that hasn't been exposed to some form of hardship and or tragedy. Jews were slaves and ultimately were the target of extermination (and still are). Whites have been enslaved. The Japanese enslaved thousands of Chinese (those they didn't slaughter during their invasion of China). The list goes on. Yet, seemingly enough, the only group you hear screaming about injustice is the same group who has made a career (literally) of picking the pockets of the average tax payer.

Why go to college and or get a job? All you've got to do is cry foul, point the finger at "whitey" and punctuate that your situation is the result of 100's of years of oppression... then wait for whatever it is you're after and you'll get it.

What Zan doesn't understand (because he doesn't live here and doesn't see it) is that the racism projected from "white" America has nothing to with skin color anymore as much as it has to do with [it] being sick of being called a racist for everything imaginable and because of the double standard, already described.

That's not to say there aren't a few pockets of tobacca chewing, big stupid truck driving, sheet wearing jackasses out there still burning crosses.

There are plenty of "black" shows that have been on the big so called "white" networks. "Martin," "The Cosby Show," "Rock" ... and the list goes on. You'll see black people on the shows of those channels at any given time, day or night.

What you won't see on BET is a show with very many white people (if any at all) - and MAYBE on a few commercials.

How pathetic.

The real problem lies in the pressure put on racism from caucasians. For instance, for every one completely racist person (Everyone on this board according to Zanblackchief) there are atleast 80 white people trying to defend their statements for fear of misinterpretation.
If an African American is at the local Wal-Mart asking for food money (obviously homeless), your response to him could be, and almost only be: "Oh i'm sorry man, I would but I have to go to the ATM first, if you want, wait right here and i'll be back."

The response to a White person could be any number of things, including "Get off of your lazy ass and get a fucking job."

If you were to reverse the rolls a bit and repeat that to an African American, you're racist (in the eyes of a large percentage of people, obviously including Blackman Zan..
Back to what I originally said, the man who's being asked for money had to reverse his rolls for fear of misinterpretation, therebe, racist remarks. Is he a racist person? To a certain degree everyone has prejudice against others, but to dub him "racist" in general is slanderous.

IMO Sharpton did nothing wrong in regards to the whole Imus situation. I totally agreed with him.
