Yeah, that's why most if not all of the southern states vote Republican every election.

I was sure I'd missed his sarcasm so I didn't say anything.

on another note: Our House seat incumbent is a Republican, Congressman Henry Brown. The Democratic nominee is Linda Ketner. I don't know anything about her so I researched her yesterday.

The most interesting things I found:

She is openly gay (this is okay with me, just something I had no idea about). Her father is the founder of Food Lion stores, and she is the Director of Organization Development for Food Lion Stores.

Congressman Henry Brown was the VP for Piggly Wiggly stores.

that highly depends on the part of the south you're in. I'm in a republican stronghold, and toward the "good ole boys" areas you'll find a lot more republicans too. you'll be hard-pressed to find a ton of confederate flag toting dems. that's a pretty broad and incredibly inaccurate statement, I think.

Just because there are more registered democrats there doesn't mean that they are allowed to vote.

Sorry to bring back an old topic in this thread, but its about people not realizing what is still out there. A couple examples that I thought would add to it...

In a little town called Grundy, Virginia (SW VA, right beside KY), their city landmark is their old hangin tree. They even had a plaque in front of it up until a few years ago that made its claim. Never said anything bout race on it, but if you talk to locals that have been there forever, you know what it was for.

Right outside of Grundy, theres a backroad that goes up a little holler that goes into KY up towards Harlem that goin into the town of Hancock, I think it is or somethin like that, has a homemade side off the side of the road that says "Dont let the sun set on your back here nigger". Ive heard the state has taken it down dozens of times, but the locals keep puttin it right back up.

Racism will never go away, you cant change peoples minds that go back to generations of hate. Well, I guess people change, but you know what I mean. If they wanna go live the rest of their lives thinkin all day about how much they hate people, let em, who gives a shit. Its just like I said about politics, people that have their minds set to bitch about certain things are gonna be grumpy half the time. Id rather do my own thing and be happy and not give a shit about people and things I cant change. If they wanna be misearable haters their whole lives, let em

    Listen people and fucktards alike.

Many of the traditional "Dixi-Democrat" has indeed gravitated toward the GOP over recent years. HOWEVER - the MAJORITY of people over all are DEMOCRAT. Just because those who VOTED last election voted "red" doesn't mean the entire state/south is republican. Does it really take someone to point that out?

Don't be fucktards. You know full the demographics of the south indicate there is a very high population of blacks and hispanics down here (Altanta is something on the order of 70% black - while Birmingham is closer to 80%). Traditionally blacks and hispanics DON'T vote in the same numbers as do whites. Get it yet? I'd bet money that most southern blacks and hispanics are NOT republicans. There are also an ass load of whites that refuse to let go of the tradional southern-democrat title.

Get a fucking clue before you start ranting about a region you've probably never stepped foot in - on post some "chart" talking about the breakdown of people who actually went to the polls.

    http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/02/05 ... d-turnout/

ATLANTA -- Georgia elections officials said voter turnout appeared to be high across the state Tuesday for a Democratic presidential primary with especially intense interest among blacks and a Republican race that could attract a wealth of independents to the polls.

Polls were open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and long lines were commonplace in many areas. At a church in Fulton County, more than 50 people had lined up to vote before the doors opened and a poll worker there said she had never seen so many lined up so early. In Marietta, a line of voters stretched to back of a middle school auditorium.

The election was the first statewide contest in Georgia that required voters to bring photo identification to the polls, and delays were reported in some places as officials checked records.

Clare Schexnyder, spokeswoman for the national election monitoring group Election Protection, said some computers being used to check the IDs crashed and people had to wait in lines of up to 90 minutes. She said other problems included about 50 voters being turned away from a precinct that split in June to form two precincts, and that a precinct at an Atlanta residential building saw delays when only one of five voting booths were working and election workers had to hand out 75 paper ballots.

Elsewhere, a precinct in the suburban city of Covington, Ga., opened only to discover the wrong keys -- needed to turn them on -- had been delivered with its new electronic voting machines. A Newton County Board of Elections official said the correct keys immediately were sent to the church and she had not heard reports of delays.

Secretary of State spokesman Matt Carrothers said crews were fixing problems, which he termed "isolated."

"We're hearing anecdotes of heavy turnout all across the state," Carrothers said. "We're also hearing everything is running smoothly as expected, so that's good news."

Tuesday's vote has the potential to rival the 1988 presidential primary, when about 40 percent of the voters turned out. More than 600,000 Democrats cast their ballots, fueling a Jesse Jackson victory. On the Republican side, about 400,000 voters turned out, giving George H.W. Bush a win over Bob Dole and Pat Robertson.

Alan Abramowitz, an Emory University political science professor who studies voting behavior, predicted as many as 700,000 people could vote in the GOP primary and 800,000 in the Democratic contest.

"I think it's going to be a huge turnout for a primary, because of the high level of interest in the race," he said. "It's competitive and I think African-American voters are very motivated to turn out."

Democrats are choosing between New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who would be the first woman nominee, and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, who would be the first black nominee. Arizona Sen. John McCain, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Texas Congressman Ron Paul are looking for wins in a close Republican race.

Secretary of State Karen Handel said counties are expecting between 30 percent and 35 percent of eligible voters to cast ballots. Georgia has 4.48 million registered voters who have been active in recent elections. Overall, the state has more than 5.2 million registered voters.

State elections officials said 247,897 people voted early, either by casting absentee ballots or advance voting. In 2004, a year when only the Democratic nomination was up for grabs, the combined total was 48,411.

it's not a "chart," mr. fox news, it's a map showing which states voted Dem and which voted Rep

guess what? it doesn't matter one fucking bit how many Dems there are in a state if the state votes Rep. Dems could outnumber the Reps 10-to-1 and it still wouldn't mean shit if non of them voted. get it yet? until that map shows any of the South in blue, your point is worthless. get it yet? the BREAKDOWN of those who ACTUALLY WENT TO THE POLLS IS THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS

I know you're not that stupid.

I SAID - the south is mainly democrat - and you idiots came back with ohh looky at the map it's all red... even the south... trying to tell me it was mostly republican.

    And you were WRONG.

    In the South

As of early August, Arkansas had 63,232 registered Democrats, 48,021 Republicans, 30 Greens and 1.5 million unaffiliated voters. In 2004, Arkansas had 55,992 registered Democrats, 39,868 Republicans and 1.6 million unaffiliated

OMG no way! Arkansas had 55 THOUSAND registered Democrats and only 39 thousand registered Republicans...

But... but... it's a RED STATE!!!!! Oh the south must be republican now!

    No. Sorry.

You really are pretty stupid, Brin. I used to think you were a lot sharper than that... but wow I was wrong.

My point was NEVER whether or not the south VOTED GOP in the last election. Again, for the last time. My POINT was that the south is primarily DEMOCRAT. YOU were one of the few that wanted to argue that it wasn't - and you got owned. But, rather than say, "ok yeah you're right" you have to try and back step your way out of it.

we're arguing apples and oranges here

you're saying the south has more registered democrats than they do republicans, and i'm not disputing that fact.

what I'M saying is that it doesn't MATTER until they show up to the polls, thus it doesn't MATTER how many democrats there are. THUS, until the dems actually show up and pencil in their ballots, SOUTHERN VOTERS ARE PREDOMINANTLY REPUBLICAN.

it's a pretty simple concept, man: voters that don't vote <<<FUCKING AREN'T VOTERS>>>. try and wrap your tiny mind around it, yeah?

ZOMG I AM EXCITED TO VOTE!!!!

jorsh isn't registered and probably isn't going to do so, for which i am glad. he is apathetic re: politics and i think if he did vote, it would be only to vote for mccain just to spite me :P i really prefer if people who are apathetic (or who only want to vote for someone b/c their running mate is hot or "i'd like to have a beer with him") wouldn't vote, you know?
