I know religions "evolve". That's my point entirely. That it's fucking dumb.

Since when did societal pressures affect a God and what he wants you to do in life? Ummmmm....right.

And you were the one who responded to the quote saying that being pro-choice ISN'T a mortal sin. My point there was, as I said, that you're not qualified to declare that.

This is all of course in the event that there are deities or a singular deity at all. Just for the sake of conversation I am assuming there is the possibility of one or more.

Harri, there is a reason we don't burn folks at the stake today, I mean c-mon you're not thinking this through.

My mortal sin example is FROM them I didn't invent that. It mentions abortion in the context of being part of it, involved, having had one, etc. If you're pro-choice you are NOT "mortal sinner". If that were the case it would spell it out, it doesn't and it doesn't for a reason.

Harrison wrote:And you were the one who responded to the quote saying that being pro-choice ISN'T a mortal sin. My point there was, as I said, that you're not qualified to declare that..
it isn't, the catholic edict completely omits pro-choice. So, you are wrong, I am able to make that statement and the statement is correct.

Show me any document that is backed by catholic edicts and teachings where is specifically says, being pro-choice is a sin in any way. You can't, it doesn't exist. It says abortion is wrong, murder, don't do it, don't be part of it, it does NOT say, you being pro-choice is a sin.

BTW, you are not qualified to disagree with me, so STFU.

If my comment was perceived as an attack on religion then I'll apologize to those that took it as such, so I'm sorry for those that took offense. My point was more towards the particular priest in question has NO scripture nor doctrine nor edict to preach what he has spoken regarding folks that are pro-choice. Sure he can say what he wants but he is speaking from a point of authority, in the "know", yet me, not being in the "know", can prove that he is lying and that in of itself should put him in an even lesser position of a woman who just had an abortion (in Gods eyes). He is taking his opinion, preaching as truth, as if from God himself, etc. He is wrong and the worst kind of priest one could listen to and take direction from. He has twisted words and made himself a peer to God, essentially saying, I'm better, I know more, I'm superior to scripture, to God, etc.

As for my modernizing bit, seriously, women are 2nd class people in Catholicism, women aren't even capable to become a priest, they are saying to women, you are less because we said so, not God said so, we, the organization, the church, says so. That is only one point regarding the inability to flex in modern times.

As I had said before, there is a reason we don't burn folks at the stake anymore.

I have to disagree to a point. It isn’t the church per say creates divides. It’s the PEOPLE who attend the church. The true to form REAL believers are not judgmental. It’s those who attend church because it’s “fashionable.” And, there are a LOT more of those “types” than there are true to form believers. They give the church a bad rep. Most of them know nothing of the teachings contained in the scriptures, they’re more concerned with who dresses the best on Sunday.

This thread is about a leader within the church creating a rift intentionally, taking what you said, that leaves us without a true believer leading. Then again, I know an Atheist who teaches Catechism class in Jersey... so yeah.

Why can't I call a spade a spade? If the church (its people, a priest, the pope whoever) say or do something that merits my derision, they shouldn't be sheltered somehow because Araby doesn't want us to be mean to them.

When Obama did stupid stuff should you have ignored it because it would have been mean of you to attack him about it?

Lighten up, that's what my mom taught me.

I disagree Diekan. The leadership of the Church does indeed create the divides. They teach you that other people and other beliefs are wrong and that those people are not as worthy. The people inside the church take their cue from what's being told to them. Rank and file members aren't the ones that start the holy wars, it's the Church organization that we have to thank for that.

It's not about being mean or not. Attack away, but let it be the one that's responsible. Unless the Pope said it, it doesn't really represent an entire religion, and if the Pope doesn't support this man's agenda, he's on his own. If an entire religion is going for this, attack away, I suppose. It doesn't really change their views, I assure you.

The church is more then just the Pope. This priest does represent his religion.
