The American Express card. The company wants some of its customers to leave home without it.
In a marketing turnabout, the largest U.S. credit card company by purchases is offering select members a $300 gift card to drop its card, according to a notice on its Web site.
To collect on the deal, entire card balances must be paid in full between March 1 and April 30.
Enrolling in the deal cancels the account – as well as any reward points built up – so the company cautions that points should be used before the card member enrolls in the deal.
Four weeks after the promotion ends, a $300 gift card will be sent to those who canceled and fulfilled the offer’s terms. Gift cards, according to a note on the Web site offer , can be used wherever American Express cards are accepted.
