I guess doing it that way means there's no visible scars, which I suppose could be a consideration depending on your vanity level. Might mean less long term pain as well.

That said, if I ever donate a kidney, and a doctor asks if I'd like them to remove it through my ass, I will most emphatically tell him "NO FUCKING WAY", and happily deal with having a scar.

I think it is also a less stress on the body as you don't have to move a bunch of other organs around and shit when you take it out that way. Sort of like several new ops that enter through the belly button (ugg).
