Obama beer sparks controversy

Dave Cohen Reporting
President Barack Obama is getting some flack and some praise after enjoying a beer.

He was at an NBA basketball game and ordered a brew. Images of Mr. Obama enjoying a beer have angered some people.

One caller to WWL complained, "People are losing 5, 10, 20 thousand dollars a day in the stock market, and he's sitting there drinking a beer!" She also said, "It's insulting... there's a lot of people suffering." She insisted President Obama should not publicly have fun during a time of so much pain.

"That's the craziest thing I've ever heard in my life," one man called in to reply. "He didn't mess up the country, first of all... let's be real now. A man's gotta take some down time."

"She needs to get a life," another called responded. "We all need to lighten up."

Another man said, "Aww heck, you know, ain't nothin' wrong with it. He's takin' a little break, knockin' him down a cold one."

However, another woman was upset about the courtside presidential beer. "The president is the president 24 hours a day. I don't think he should drink on the job."

God forbid that Obama poop or have sex with his wife... people will be calling for an impeachment

My god, it's not like he went on vacation during hard economic times or anything.

I like the fact that she is upset over the $5 beer, not the $50+ seat.

I don't think she's upset about the money involved. If anything spending the $50 would be "helping".

She's just an irrational, clueless bitch.

Sounds to me like she voted for someone else and doesn't like that he was elected so needs to find somewhere to vent. The fact that all she had was him having a beer at a basketball game on a Friday night tells me he must be doing something right.

The president has every right to have some down time, I would never have complained if bush had done the same thing regardless of how much I disagreed with his political views. The job itself is stressful enough, not to mention the its probably a good thing for the people to see that he is a human being. It personally doesn't matter to me how he paid for the seats, in all likely hood, the seats were given to him by the person/people who own the seats as they were more then likely season ticket holders seats.

Id say the tickets were given to him, I hope so at least, because those have to be multi thousand dollar seats if not. He is really good at spending money though~ Thats the one thing Ive seen so far lol

It's refreshing to see the president doing some normal shit from time to time. Like eating out in diners, and going to sporting events. You know, the president that everyone that disliked tried to label as some kind of elitist snob.

ya they definitely weren't $50 seats, they were probably more like $1500, but those seats rarely sell out and since he's not a season ticket holder I would imagine that since he's, you know, the president, that they comped them for him.

gaazy, I love ya, and if I had questions about how to run my small business you'd be one of the first I'd ask, but for the life of me I'll never understand why you even bother in political discussions since you self admittedly a) don't give a shit and b) don't know the first thing about politics.

he's spent a lot of money, to be sure, but I'm still a firm believer in desperate times call for desperate measures. even as someone who stands to lose her job because of his presidency, I still fully support most of his decisions thus far, including his reasoning as to why I might lose my job. it sucks, but he's right. Instead of screaming bloody murder like multi-millionares who are whining about higher taxes, I'd rather take the route of logically approaching the situation and knowing that while it may not be best for me now, it'll be best for my own future, and my children's future.

that's not to say I'm not scared shitless about what I'll do when I lose my job if I do, but something tells me it'll work itself out.

it's almost as if he spent a significant portion of his presidency on vacation at a large ranch in the midst of a war and shitty economy.... errrrr....

or drank a beer.

I'm a federal contractor, Tuggan. Quite honestly, I get paid way too much for doing too little and completely agree that the outsourcing for DoD spending is out of control - I also think, though, that a lot of federal workers get astronomical wages for mediocre (if even) work. many of the federal workers who are in my position, for example, have been here for 20 years and don't know how to use a computer, and refuse to learn. My job doesn't entail a whole lot, but being able to maintain databases is a central part of it - if you don't do that, you're pretty much doing nothing. a lot of these ladies have no idea how to do that, so.. they pretty much do nothing but bring cookies in and walk around talking to people all day.

There are so many things that can be handled by federal employees that are currently being outsourced. the problem, though, is that the reason it's being outsourced is because of how screwed the federal employment system is. it's currently designed to cater to those who complain the loudest, not those who work the hardest (some unions are important and necessary.. the union here is absolutely retarded) - for the most part, I'd say contractors end up having to work harder than the federal workers because we're always at risk, but what I do for my division I could handle for 4 more divisions and still have time leftover in my week. I've said as much and offered as much because I love to be busy, but that's just not how it works. One personnel specialist/functional analyst per division, though you really don't need that much. my job is just one example, though. there's obviously a percentage of employees out here who have way too much on their plates too.

Obviously, I don't want to lose my cushy job, but I can definitely see why he wants to cut back contract spending. if I could have it my way, they'd do an evaluation of the contractors in my position and get rid of the worthless ones, triple the workload of the good ones, and give us better benefits and vacation/sick time because our package sucks. You can't complain since the job is so easy, but an easy job doesn't really help you when you get sick and don't get paid.

Notice I dont get into the debates, I make one liners, mainly aimed at getting under peoples skin. Very, very rarely, if ever, do I actually give my views, or go into the shit like others here do about how the government works, types of government, ect. And most of the time, it works, people do get whiny and defensive when I say things like "Obama is gay and stupid, he likes to spend money we dont have". And its great! Usually works like a charm, because most of the people here are so busy sucking his big black cock, that it doesnt matter what he does, theyll agree with it. That is why I make the one line posts, to see who I can get whining and defensive. And on that note, that is the one thing I do think it completely stupid, and will talk about. The son of a bitch loves dropping money out of his ass that we are paying for, on stuff that wont do shit. Other than that, you are correct, I dont know shit about it, or care about it (see the posts towards the top that Arlos, Kainne, Naethyn, and others post in about shit like Lazzesfair deregulatory or whateverthefuckitis government. Who cares what kind of government it is?)

Gazzy, the same could have been said about the small white cock a good chunk of this country was sucking from for the last 8 years. The prior s.o.b loved dropping money too, as you should know if you've read. The shit you're spewing about our current guy, is the same shit you should've spewed about the last one.

Personally the coal industry needs to be about shut the fuck down, regulated so strongly you couldn't lift a nugget of coal without being reviewed, confirmed, etc. Who cares about the "friends of coal" LOL, bunch of in-bread country bumkins. (LOL see we can all play the game)
