http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHVwrCzRUX0 - whole situation was pretty funny from the Beck inspired march over healthcare. sarcasm went totally over their heads.

You think all conservatives are retarded tea party people? That movement has some extreme fringe idiots, and implying that they represent conservatives as a whole is pretty pathetic.

I suppose you believe the shit that Jimmy Carter spewed about opposition to Obama being largely based on racism as well?

to answer your first question, no. I do think that the fringe is increasing rapidly, however, thanks to morons like Sarah Palin who has become the unfortunate goddess of the far right. as conservatives, they are a sample representation, yes. on a personal basis, I know far more of those conservatives than I do normal ones.

I do think there's some opposition to Obama based on racism, yes. I certainly don't think it's a main reason, but I think to say that it hasn't been a factor at all would be turning a blind eye.

it is my perception that desperation following a string of defeats has in fact pushed a lot of what used to be "rational" conservatives further and further to the extreme right

which is funny because that will only hurt their chances in the future

I feel like I'm alone in the wilderness. I'm an agnostic fiscal conservative, social liberal. Can't stand the religious nuts in the right, and can't stand the excessive programs from the left. Can't stand the massive increasing power and size of the Federal Government by both.

The short version would be: Hi, I'm Kaiine and I'm a Libertarian.

How can you fiscally conservative, social liberal, but against "excessive" social programs?

Or "social liberal", but upset about the government's size?

I don't think you know what social liberalism is Kaiine.

Social liberal when considering these definitions of liberal:
4. favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, esp. as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties.
5. favoring or permitting freedom of action, esp. with respect to matters of personal belief or expression: a liberal policy toward dissident artists and writers.

In other words, people should be able to do whatever the hell they want to do so long as they aren't hurting others. For example, if you want to smoke pot, I (nor the government that represents me) have no right to tell you you can't. Being a social liberal doesn't imply being in favor of things like walfarism or universal health care, or any other government programs. Quite the opposite, really, in my opinion. Maximum individual freedom means less laws and regulations, less dependancy on government, being able to keep more of what you earn, making sure the government isn't limiting your options--your freedom, etc. Government exists solely to protect our individual rights, rights that pre-exist it, rights that come from our humanity. Government does not grant us our rights nor can it provide us with more of them.

I am liberal in that sense, whereas many conservatives seem to be interested in regulating personal behavior and pushing their own values onto others.

Oh ok, feel free to use established political labels suited to a rather specific ideology and change them to suit your opinion.
