Well, Canada had much closer ties and was previously subject to British rule.
This is why much of what Canada did was to augment the UK forces.
Anyone trying to mock Canada or the US contribution to WWII is being silly. Both countries made great sacrifices and both were important to winning the war.
The US had 16 million people fighting and lost over 400,000 troops.
Canada had 1.5 Million people serving and lost 45,000 troops. Per Capita, Canada sent more people than the US.
