Then why in bloody hell did you claim that your argument with Obama was that he hadn't spelled out his platform?!?!?!?

Why didn't you say that to begin with, or was that reason just one you had to come up with in a hurry after we called you on your obvious fallacy?

Because that's all you bloody heard from him while he was campaigning for the nomination. I decided then he hadn't a clue but was very charismatic and nothing I've seen or heard since then has changed my mind.

So, yes, I didn't bother reading the updates to his platform once he secured his nomination. And what I've read about him from you guys and other places convinces me that I was right to decide to not vote him.

Yeah, but how long ago did Gyps post that calculator now? Even if you didn't know UNTIL then about him posting his detailed plans, you HAD to know then, as there's no way that calculator could have been created WITHOUT it.

Yet here you were today, claiming he'd never posted a plan and that you might vote for him if he did, when you KNEW well before today that he had, and that there was no chance whatsoever that you would vote for him.

Why?

Talk about not having a clue. His platform has been for the most part static and CLEARLY SPELLED OUT since he started his campaign. All you've done is parrot conservative talking points and never bothered to listen to or read what he was saying.

Feel free to decline the universal healthcare, tax cuts and other benefits that you will hopefully see under his presidency but please put the WEAK smear campaign and rightwing bullshit talking head soundbytes to rest. They make you look ignorant.

Yeah, I gotta agree here, Mart - his platform has been very clearly spelled out from the beginning. The reason you heard "Change" so often in the primaries is because he and Hillary didn't differ very much on platform, so focusing on rhetoric and catch-phrases was pretty much all they (Hillary and Obama both) could gun for without discrediting their own values. He's been defined from the get-go and hasn't waivered much aside from compromising and meeting halfway on stances like drilling - aside from that, he's been saying the same stuff all along - it just got muddled in the primary process.

I'd say the same could be said about John McCain, but honestly - his stances haven't been clearly defined, and he's virtually 180'd on several of them. I know you're not a McCain supporter, I'm just saying - if we're talking about hiding your platform behind talking points, much and more could be said about him. I mean hell, he's so given up on defining his true stance (going the "this way today" and "that way tomorrow" route) that he's just adopted Obama's "Change" brand.

All Martrae needed to know about Obama was that he is black. That sealed the deal.

This whole thing is pretty typical though, the GOP are doing something similar, they say they're not but I don't know why they would be collecting the data.

There have been several reports in MI that the GOP are gathering data on folks that have been foreclosed on, then they are planning to take this list to the voting locations, and challenging the vote of anyone that is on the list. Supposedly using things like "prove you live in this area", "you can't vote here because you have no residency", etc.

And Mart, I don't want to pick on you, but you've had a few posts, one comes to mind in particular, that while it could have been just a poor selection of wording, I can see why some folks may think your a bit racist, perhaps in the realm of what I call 'soft-racism'. At the same time, statistics would prove that conservatives have been and will probably always be more "racist", e.g. I've never met a liberal racist (this isn't to say they don't exist, but you must agree conservatism and racism have been married for a while).

towards the middle of that page, you made a statement about being curious how many blacks vs whites have abortions and to my knowledge was the first and only statement in that thread regarding race. The only conclusion, again not saying it was intentional on your part, was that race to you makes some sort of difference, not low income, not poor, not inner city, not less educated, etc.

Actually, I was curious about cultures. From watching shows like 48 Hours, etc. you get the impression that blacks prefer to keep their babies and that abortions are predominantly a 'white thing'. It wasn't a commentary on anything more than that and I never did follow up on it to see if it was true or not.

I will agree that IMO black folks tend to have deeper relationship with Christianity than whites, contrary to many whites opinions :).

Ok so this is nitpicky but you realize that you've not said you are or are not a racist, soft or otherwise. However this isn't a demand or request, just a statement.

Obviously the only contact she has with anyone "of color" is through TV. I'm sure she's as scared of people that are different than her than anyone else that lives an isolated rural life is.

You make me laugh, Toss. You make assumptions about my life that have absolutely no bearing on reality.

Clakar, I already stated in this very thread that I don't see color and it sends a little shock down my system when someone brings that up as having relevance. Not sure how much clearer I can be.

You don't see color because all you see is "white" for miles and miles. Thanks for clearing that up.

You want me to fall into the trap of protesting my non-racism by screaming about how many black friends I have? I just have friends, end of story. If you count your friends by how many are black and how many are white, then I feel sorry for you....and your friends.
