Plane goes down in Ukraine killing all aboard

Postby Narrock » Tue Aug 22, 2006 2:54 pm

AP - 1 hour, 20 minutes ago
KIEV, Ukraine - A Russian passenger jet carrying at least 170 people — including 45 children — crashed Tuesday in eastern Ukraine after sending a distress signal, killing all aboard, authorities said. A Russian news agency said officials had ruled out terrorism, but the cause of the crash was still unclear, with various officials citing turbulence, lightning and a fire on board.

:wtf: When are planes going to be safe to travel on?

Planes are incredibly safe to travel on.

Statistics say so, yes. However, 3-4 commercial airliners going down worldwide every year is still 3-4 too many.

How many cars crash every year? How about every day? How about trains? Hell a train derailed today too.

At this time. There is no safer way to travel then to fly.

Id consider 3-4 crashes a year pretty damn good, by FAR better than what it takes for me to fly.

Add up the number of deaths worldwide day by day by motor vehicles. It by far eclipses that of plane crashes. But because so many usually die at once in a plane crash vs only a few in a car accident (sorry to boil human life down to a numbers game) it is more newsworthy for lack of a better term

Still very sad though. Over 45 children died in this one. :(

That's a lot of kids for one flight.
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.

It was probably due to noob pilots who didn't know what to do in extreme turbulence conditions.

Russian airlines are not known for their sterling maintenance record.

Hmm... I wonder...

Do you think the Russian FAA completely fucked up and failed to notify other key governmental agencies almost costing the lives of hundreds, if not thousands more? You know kind of like the fuck ups that used to run our FAA about... ohhhh... 5 years ago.
