Good old southern justice
[quote]MIAMI - A fugitive gunman accused of killing a Florida sheriff’s deputy was shot 68 times by SWAT team officers who found him hiding in the woods, according to autopsy results.
Police fired 110 shots at Angilo Freeland, 27, the target of a massive manhunt in central Florida following the shooting death of Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy Matt Williams Thursday.

that's not southern justice, miami is hardly considered "southern" in the context you used it. that's just really, really fucked up.
at the same time, you have to consider the emotion behind the men shooting..doesn't justify anything but I think that's what the close-range shots were about. pure anger/bitterness...the brotherhood cops/firefighters/military have is something they take seriously-
it's comparable with domestic situations (men kill people over women cheating...all the time)

Definately a vendetta kill which is bullshit. God forbid one of these days it happens and they got teh wrong guy. Oh and that sheriff, to say he would have shot him more if he had more bullets. If anyone is able to get a case on them for excessive force that quote is what will do them in. Sorry but revenge killing by cops is bullshit.
I dunno...a friend of ours is an Atlanta cop and they once had to shoot a guy something like 182 times because the fucker would not go down. He had an AK-47 and was shooting back, though.

Dude, it's that kind of caution that gets people killed. It's why some of our troops are getting killed now - because they're affraid to pull the trigger and end up on trial.
He rose his hand, they weren't sure if he had a gun or not... IF it were me - and this fucker had already killed a cop, a cop dog and shot another cop and was considered armed and extremely dangerous... I find him hiding in the woods and he raises his hand - I'm opening up.... I'm not getting killed because I need to "make sure" he's armed first so the far left doesn't cry about excessive force on an outright killer.
Assault weapons...whatever APD used at the time.

Its the job of cops to protect us and themselves with the minimal amount of force necessary. If a guy has a gun and I see it and I'm a cop yeah I'm blowing his brains out before I get tagged. I get that point. Shooting a guy down in retaliation of another cops death is wrong. That's not the right reason to do that. Do it because he threatens your life, sure. I don't argue that too much caution will get you capped, but what I'm saying is, did this guy even stand a chance of being arrested? I think that no matter what, this guy was a corpse. Statements like what that sheriff said make me think that no matter what, that man had no chance of living. True he didn't deserve to, but I don't think giving cops that kind of power is good and again, god forbid they have the wrong guy. I'd sleep better knowing I had proffessional officers protecting me by the letter of the law than a bunch of emotional revenge seeking vigilantes who happen to be heavily armed. It's shit like that that leads to corruption if it hasn't happened already.
Jay cops don't make mistakes and if you didn't do anything you have nothing to worry about! They have guns because they're all really good people with lots and lots of training and always make the right decisions. Remember you can always trust government entities as long as you didn't do anything wrong!

And if he had the gun in his hand and shot two more cops before they stopped him you people would be here calling them a bunch of dumn asses for not shooting him sooner.
there's a HUGE difference between the cops kicking in a suspects door and raining bullets into the place, pulling someone over and macing the shit out of the driver because they refuse to give up their lisences and THIS situation.
if that's what happened... if the cops had kicked in the door of a suspects house and started shooting without any provocation... yes... i'll be the first to say they need to be dealt with - prosecuted even.
if the cops mace some drive for not giving up their proof of insurance.... yes... they need to be dealt with.
if the cops gun down some piece of shit criminal who's already proven their willingness to kill without hesitation while in pursuit of said criminal... fuck that... they deserve medals.
you all know far to well that i learn left on most issues. but crime is not one of them. how do you stop an infection? you kill it. what do you do to clean up crime... kill the criminals. the more you kill the less crime you have, because you do realize that the VAST majority of crime is committed by repeat offenders. so fucking put bullets in their brians and be done with it already.

one of the women that works with me is married to an ex-crack addict (it has to be said because I respect both of them so much-they are christians now and live that way every day, they are humble and kind people <3)
anyway, when it happened though-he stole a car and ran from the cops, by the time it was over he'd been shot 18 times and still didn't go down. he was a bionic man that day...

I don't see how you are making any kind of point with me with that statement. I'm saying cops SHOULDN'T do what those cops did, which was a revenge kill. The point of my post is that a cop should only kill a criminal with the intent to subdue them when their life or another person's life is immediately at risk. Killing a criminal because he killed another cop is wrong. Killing a criminal because you THINK he's gonna kill someone else later isn't legal prior to the judicial part of te legal system (means don't kill em till judge says it's ok). Now, I wasn't there, and maybe the guy pulled a gun within sight of them and he was taken down, but I look at the fact that he was LIQUIFIED with bullets and the statement that was made by the sheriff and it makes me think twice about what went down. Standard procedure or vengeance?

Again Diekan, I'm all for shooting an armed bastard with intent to kill wth weapon in hand, but my thing is, did they really have to kill him or did they do what they did for any reason other than the fact that he posed an immediate lethal threat? 110 shots + "Hey we woulda put more in him if we had it" makes me question whether or not they went by the book. I have a feeling the guy woulda been gunned down even if he had a Snickers in one hand and a white flag in the other.
