Cool...one more place to not shop

buncha dumbasses. Reminds me of the new HR guy at my job. Really nice guy, but he can't figure out why we can't keep help and they keep leaving. He pays them $7.50 an hour to start as a cart puller and work there way up. Who the hell wants to pull carts in 100+degree weather.? And then they can drive 20 minutes south and make $12 at the next store to do the same thing.

Why? Is your life that bad that you wallow in other people's misery? The only reason I'd laugh at this is if you were one of those people. But, you'd have to have a job to lose it.

I never shopped there anyways. If I ever wanted a good deal, I'd go to Amazon. Only thing that would bring me into Circuit City would be good customer service which I think this move will make that type of an environment an impossibility.

Not that I ever shopped there before, but at least now I have a good reason to not consider shopping there ever.

I am about to go cancel Netflix too. A friend of mine has worked for them for little over a year making around $13/hr, and, last week, they pulled the same shit. They let go 1/2 of the entire department, including him, and hired a whole gaggle of new fresh faced recruits at about $4/hr cheaper. It is assumed that as soon as they are able, they are going to let go the other half and replace them as well.
(edit-forgot pay rate)

I asked Babb if store managers were just too generous in compensating their workers, and after a long pause he said: “I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.”

My conclusion is this. The people who are taking the hit here (the ones being layed off) are not the ones who are responsible for the situation. Any businesses greatest operating expense is labor, and the bean counters usually see this as the first area to cut expenses when looking at improving the bottom line.

The idea that to increase profitability the first place to look is cutting labor expenses baffles me. Unless a company is sinking and operating in the red, and has employees with nothing to do I just don't follow the logic behind moves like this. It just seems more like a rob Peter to pay Paul move to me, and one that will start a downward spiral that may end before hitting bottom, but reduces the progress of a company if it even does stay above water. Circuit City will face several new issues as a result of this move. The first will be training new people, something that either via time and resources or inexperienced based mistakes will cost money. The second is employee moral will suffer, which will likely have a direct impact on the customer.

I've seen this sort of trend happen more frequently in recent years, usually connected with companies that follow the micro-management trend. What pisses me off about this sort of thing is that it's the upper level management who makes these sort of decisions, and it's likely the same people whose leadership resulted in the situation calling for action to be created in the first place. While it may not have the same impact on the bottom line as dropping 3500 positions, a few more should be dropped, like the CEO and financial managers.

I can understand Netflix doing this considering that most experiences with Netflix result in not having to interact with customer support. Circuit City however is committing business suicide. They are in a market that is slowly getting dominated by online shopping and the last line of defense to save them is to provide quality in store service, the likes of which Amazon and other online companies simply can't provide due to lack of interpersonal contact. That's really about the only thing that will save them from online companies undercutting them due to lack of payroll costs.

Hrm... I detected no sarcasm or reason in any previous posts for you, of all people, to be sarcastic about people losing their jobs. Maybe sober yourself up and re-read your post. I'd be willing to bet my paycheck against yours (basically mine against nothing) that you wouldn't find what you wrote very sarcastic. If I were to search your posts from over the years I would need a jibberish to english dictionary just to comprehend any of the garbage you spewed. And as for being a dipshit, I consider the source of that comment and

No, and that's why I don't take my prescription of vicodin or percocet.

I've seen what it does to people and I only take it when the pain is unbearable. Now, thank fucking God, this doesn't happen anymore. I finally feel "normal" almost. (for about a week now)
