Hahahaha. That one bitch said it was their *right* to have all black schools. And how exactly is this gonna help their 40% black drop out rate? Is it the mean white kids that make them want to fuck up and drop out?

that's terrible

decades we fought to unite people and now we're celebrating to separate them again?

if it was reversed it would cause an outrage and would never get passed. I can't believe something like that was approved.

Its like the use of the word "nigger". If they hate it so much and want it to dissappear, an obvious first step would be to quit calling each other that :dunno: Just seems to me like they just want to go in the opposite direction half the time of the freedoms the generation before them risked their lives to fight for

they voted, and that's how democracy works

and technically, it's just africentric, so a white kid could go there

we also have First Nations schools, so it wasn't really a stretch (I think this is ridiculous too)

I'm sure you guys offer public and catholic schools, yes? (we do as well)

Ah, I missed that part. I thought it was only black. But still yet, doesnt seem like a solution to their 40% drop out problem. I would start with giving them better role models, starting with sterilizing the "rap culture"

It's no different than a Catholic school board (government subsidized if you can believe it). Sure, it seems like a silly idea, but the difference between this kind of segregation and the kind everyone was fighting against is that this one is a choice, the other kind was forced on everyone.

yeah, no kidding

the problem isn't the content they were learning, it's more that they felt they had something better to do than go to school and/or learn

Ya, like listen to them dang ole rappers that are ruining the minds of the kids nowaday. I guess its just not an important issue to give kids role models. I looked up to people like Michael Jordan and people like that, now they all look up to thugs like allen Iverson and 50 Cent

Oh yeah of course we do, but they're all private and are funded by those who pay the tuitions. in that article, I didn't see where it stated that the school was a private school. I mean if it's private, it's a little less ridiculous, but not much

Also, catholic school is based on a principle of beliefs, which you can choose, and those beliefs are taught as a part of the curriculum - you can't choose the color of your skin, and are they going to add certain classes that teach certain things about the color of your skin?

I'm just not sure what they're trying to accomplish, I think it'll only cause problems and it's putting a spotlight on the differences between people that can't be changed. not really comparable to a privately funded religious school, to me at least.

In Canada we have two completely separate school boards (well 4 in Ontario if you count the French board). They fund Catholic and Public equally.

see yeah that's a little over the top for me

to me that's not enabling the people, that's encouraging separating yourselves from people who are different than you

I fully respect people wanting to educate their kids in certain parts of their culture, but that's a private matter.. learning math, science, and how to read and write to me should be universal for all kids. if you choose to have your children attend a school that does focus on the private matters fine, but that shouldn't be fully funded by the government.

If people democratically decide it, I don't see it as big or even bad deal. Since it's open to anyone, it's no biggie. It does sound like people expect this to fix a terrible school setup, and it doesn't seem like it could be much worse than what's currently inplace. Having an area concentrated with blacks try a different approach that might help more succeed isn't an issue, although it's not the approach I personally would try.

People have the choice of where to send their kids, however, correct? That sounds much better than how most of our states are setup.

Here you can send your kids to one public school, generally, regardless of it's quality or any issues one has. There is no funding for anything except the union backed and controlled public school systems.

Not really. If you aren't Catholic you can't go to a Catholic school unless you petition the board. I'm not Catholic and I went for a few years because it was the only French school in close proximity to me. Now days, there are more in the end I grew up in so I wouldn't have been able to go there.

I don’t understand why I’m paying for someone else learning about flying spaghetti monsters. Shouldn’t you teach that kind stuff at Sunday school?

Maybe it's different in ontario, but here, you choose which school board your taxes are applied to

non-catholic kids are allowed to attend catholic school, and vice versa

If you aren't catholic you have to have a good reason. Priority always goes to Catholic students. Also, if teachers don't adhere to the values of Catholics they can be fired without cause.

sure

the teacher thing kind of makes sense tho

teachers are rolemodels, and if part of the curriculum is a specific religion, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the teacher to be held to that standard

I don't think the government should be paying them then. They're dictating how their employees should act. Not cool with me.

every business has a code of conduct

it's not something that's sprung upon you after you get hired. you know full well going in what is to be expected of an employee at a given business

Zan, what do you mean by that with the not dictating how employees act thing? Is that just a government thing or all around you dont think they should?
