for a sec there Leah, I had thought you said "Durka?" and laughed hysterically.
I had to do a double take...

I dunno who that is either. I'm assuming a comedian or something who has ranted about the "man" keeping him down? 0.o

You don't know who Ludacris is : :eyecrazy: , I'm not a big rap fan but him, and a couple others are just over the top good (his albums have some pretty fun skits, etc on them :) ). I"m confident you've heard at least some of his music,

I'm 40 and I feel like I'm more in the know than the younglings around here /laugh

you're 40 and you listen to ludacris and say he's over-the-top good? what the hell

post a youtube of his best song and tell me why it's amazing. because i just don't believe you. and i listen to a lot of hip-hop

i'll admit i've never listened to one of his albums because i think radio hip-hop is garbage. so, i'm open ears if you can make me a believer~

oh so he's just a joker? like a biz markie with less talent?

i like stuff like that but i like the stuff that takes itself seriously with a broad viewpoint. like slum village and more or less any artist from NYC from 80-96 when that music was still rooted in jazz, james brown, and having a good time and uplifting your community. back when rap was just a big huge party. but also back when they rapped about how bad everything was and what they could do to turn their blocks or burroughs around. rapping about how babies were born addicted to drugs, thieves, corner kids, crack-ruined lives, how people "wouldn't live on the first floor no more because stray bullets explore" and other things that plagued those communities and were/are actually true

totally backfired tho, didn't it.... now all that crap is glorified by a slew of idiots like Lil' Wayne and Nelly and XZibit or what the hell ever. And all the teachers like KRS-One are still doing backwoods shows at community colleges and giving lectures about what that lifestyle was really about because the youth don't know anymore. Everyone just assumes you wanna rail a line of coke and go shoot a hooker if you listen to rap these days

    Kramer thats just stupid.

Drem once again you show that you take yourself way to seriously. Lighten the fuck up. Shit does not have to be profound to be good or fun. Id rather jam luda over krs one any day of the week.

Yunno when I hear a LUdacris song or something like that I'm out at the clubs dancing w/ my girlfriend. Because that's what that garbage is made for. That's why they're called "club bangers". If you guys sit around at home listening to Ludacris and you actually say or think he's better than KRS-One, which is something Ludacris wouldn't even agree with, you're just a bitch~

the thought was simply that now the man, or the Ultimate Man (president of the USA) is now Black so now the Man holding them down is one of their own....

    it didn't translate...

apparently Ludacris was distracting from our new pres or i made a joke without explaining it :owned:

Rap, like the rest of music, can be serious or not. I don't think club bangers are "garbage", but they definately have a familiar formula to em. Rap like the stuff KRS-One and other MC's of the past were performing are a lot more profound and would tell you about what life was like on the streets etc etc. Luda and KRS-One are apples and oranges. That's like comparing Britney Spears to Celine Dion because they both sing.

you can't really compare luda to lil wayne.. come on. and not all radio hip hop is terrible, either - kanye, for example, is incredibly talented whether you like him or not. common is also fantastic, although recent years and his increasing age seem to have pushed him right down the sellout aisle. lumping any of those artists with the likes of lil wayne, young jeezy, nelly, etc is just a tragedy - and yes, I'm aware that those guys work with that trash from time to time, but it sells albums - that doesn't mean that they're equivalent in talent. there is no mistaking luda or kanye or common when you hear them - the rest all sound exactly the same. there's a big underlying difference there between basically being a product of a label and doing whatever they say and developing your own sound, your own beats, your own person and enjoy the same type of success. who are you to look down on an artist because he was grammy-level successful, really. Tupac was mainstream, and he was a pioneer - he was someone who taught the exact stuff you're talking about. if you were your age back then, would you also regard him as a joke just because he was mainstream? Note: I'm not trying to say Luda is deep or anything, but there's no denying he has his own sound and he's not just a product of what someone tells him to be. he's fun, that's his goal - and that's okay.

you gotta stop being such a music snob, man. just because you don't like it or you heard it on the radio doesn't mean that it's automatically inferior to your super-refined music tastes. grats on liking underground bands, we all have underground groups we like - it doesn't make you better than anyone else. you seriously limit yourself if you automatically discard someone because they're "omg mainstream." I don't personally like most mainstream music, but that's because it's just not my taste. I'm not about to refuse to like a song just because it's on the radio, though, because stubbornness deprives you of being well-rounded and makes you miss out on things you might actually enjoy if you give them a chance.

if you don't like it, that's cool, but it gets pretty tired hearing you talking about how much better you are than everyone else or everyone else is a bitch because your taste is just a level above the rest of the lemmings in the world in pretty much every subject of discussion. you're a kid, man, just like me - you're not as worldly or deep as you think.

Good gawd drem you need to take chill pill. My comment was tongue in cheek but hey I like all sorts of music, country would be the worst of things and good old rock-n-roll on the top of it all.

I don't pigeon hole myself into one genre as I feel you lose to much and don't get exposure to enough. Your taste in music is just that your taste, your opinion, there is no good or bad just flavors and opinions. However this post of yours and your love post in the other thread is making me think of you as boolean. Do you not see the world in shades or is it all ON or OFF for you?

Kanye is a talented producer and lyricist. I think he's a bad rapper though. His style is too static. I dunno, maybe thats why people like him but that's why I don't.

As far as best rapper is concerned, I'm a big fan of Del the Funkee Homosapien.

@jay: totally agree w/ that. he's a pretty damn good producer. but ya, wtf, how pretentious and arrogant can you be when you rap? he's a good example

@gyps: luda and lil wayne are all the same to me. and yea duh obviously it doesn't all suck. "the underground" lol.... probably everyone i listen to is as famous as you can get. eric b. & rakim. pete rock & CL smooth. Wu Tang. Gang Starr. BDP. J Dilla. nas. AZ. kool g rap. BIGGIE. mobb deep. dj quick, dj premier, dj cam. ya, totally underground. more like: the classics. i should stop being such a snob :x maybe you guys should stop caring about what i say so much. for fuck's sake lol

What problem do I have here exactly Drem? You've already passed your judgment (see bold above), what excactly are you attempting to achieve, your objective is what?

One thing that is "over the top" (again a tongue in cheek comment) for me is how many of his tunes are comedic.

      agreed!

also i think "stand up" is my favorite luda song. or maybe "roll out" because the lyrics make me giggle. and in college we all really liked "what's your fantasy" because we all thought it was so naughty, lol. w/e, it's obviously not serious music, but like several people have said, luda really has fun with his music.
