The Associated Press wrote:Suit claims University of California biased against creationism

Associated Press

LOS ANGELES - A group representing religious schools in the state is suing the University of California admissions officials for allegedly discriminating against high schools that teach creationism and other conservative Christian viewpoints.

The Association of Christian Schools International, which represents more than 800 schools, filed a lawsuit Thursday in federal court claiming UC officials have refused to certify high school science courses that use textbooks challenging Darwin's theory of evolution.

The suit said the Calvary Chapel Christian School in Murrieta, a co-plaintiff, was told its courses were rejected because they use textbooks printed by two Christian publishers, Bob Jones University Press and A Beka Books.

Wendell E. Bird, an Atlanta attorney who represents the association, said UC policy is violating of the rights of students and religious schools.

"A threat to one religion is a threat to all," he said.

UC spokeswoman Ravi Poorsina said she could not comment, because the university had not been served with the suit. Still, she said the university has a right to set course requirements.

"These requirements were established after careful study by faculty and staff to ensure that students who come here are fully prepared with broad knowledge and the critical thinking skills necessary to succeed," Poorsina said.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Those twats are going to get laughed out of court.

Honestly, I hope more Universities do this. Would be the perfect antidote for braindead boards of education like in Kansas. "Sure, you can change your science requirements for high schools to no longer require teaching actual, you know, SCIENCE, but we're not going to count those courses as meeting our admission standards. So, all of your kids are going to be a big step down for getting into college." I would laugh for days. :)

Again, I don't care what religion people are, but you can't repackage religion and call it science, because, well, it's not.

It all comes down to the meaning of "challenging Darwin's theory of evolution."

If the text books are just saying stressing that its a theory and that their are places in the theory where science has been unable to explain certain things, then I would say they have a case. However if that text books are mentioning God in any way shape or form, then the school is well within its rights to do accept the class as a science class.

I personally really wonder whats going throguhte mind of the person who said "A threat to one religion is a threat to all," Does this mean that he thinks all attackes on say the islomic religions calling for dealth and destruction a threat to say christianity?

At the same time you could also reword it to "To teach 1 religion is a threat to the rest"

You'd laugh for days? The ones affected directly are the students who have no control over the curriculum, hardly seems fair to deny applicants not for their academic achievements, but because of a feud between two equally retarded sides hell bent on trying to screw each other.

"A threat to one religion is a threat to all,"
Sounds a whole lot like:
"our agreement to believe in and fight for the religion of God. We believe that those who follow these beliefs and the provisions of faith are true ..."

Seems perfectly reasonable to me. Parents want their kids to be able to go to a good college, maybe they'll elect different school board members who don't try and have religion classes instead of science classes, or they'll send their kids to schools that actually, you know, teach science.

Or, they could go to Bob Jones University! You know, the one that has no accreditation whatsoever? The diplomas they issue are just as valid as ones from Bob's Hardware or that you print out on a laser printer yourself.

This is about denying students based on their academic acheivment. They have not qualified based on their science teaching for the schools. A science class teaching non-science material as science loses all credability. The students have not fulfilled the science part of the school requirments. If the students were willing to take a a true science class over the summer, I would bet the college would admit them.

If the schools ae actually teaching non-science as science in science classes, the college should not be forced to accept it as credit for science. I would certainly question anything that they were teaching in that "science" class this isn't a science class.

If they are so determined to teach creation, create a option religion class taken as an elective for students but be ready for the protests from the religions that are not represented and the complaints when the creation that is being taught is not exactly what their specific branch of their specific religion teaches.

But your right, the children shouldn't be the ones who are punished, but on that same thought, why should the college be punished becasue some high schools decided they didn't feel they needed to teach a specific subject. If some school decides to up and stop teaching history, should colleges just accept it and say that their requirments on that dont matter and admit the students anyway?

Of couse they could just resolve the entire issue by not teaching evolution in high school at all. If the students want to learn about it they can take it in college. We had multiple classes dedicated to the subject, its a huge subject that can be only so briefly touched on in high school that they may as well just skip it. It would resolve the entire issue in one step.

did you know that many text books still to this day hold up piltdown man as proof of evolution?

one of the major reasons there is a backlash against evolution is there many discredited facts still being taught.. even if you are pro evolution this should be a problem

I got a radical idea.... WHO GIVES A FUCK?

You're shitty kid doesn't need to know that maybe we spawned from apes, or from god, or by the flying spaghetti monster and his noodly appendage (best theory yet).

Teaching creationism or evolution are both a huge waste of time. You're dumbass kids would be better off with a class on how to fill out unemployment forms and resumes to work at walmart.

Better yet don't even send them to school. They aren't learning shit in schools these days anyways. Buy them a metal detector and send them out hunting for buried treasure or have them mine coal.

Either one is a better more useful alternative to a public "education".

I hated english. If I need to use proper grammar and spelling I let microsoft werd do the work.

So you'll have no problem citing a current college textbook that holds Piltdown Man as proof of evolution. Title, author and/or ISBN please.
