Tired of the rhetoric

Postby Langston » Thu Sep 08, 2005 4:34 pm

I miss the days when there was a discussion of issues... not sound bites and talking points. I miss the days when judges were appointed to judge... not legislate. I miss the days when people were educated and informed... not led and misled by the media and pop culture and a worthless educational system.

It's a sad state that our nation is in - and I find you folks who are gloating over this to be beyond reprehensible.

There once was a time when an honest man could make an honest dollar, spank his kids for talking back, have a loving wife who he married because she was his sweetheart. A man who could read the paper for informative news without having to sift through the propaganda and who didn't need to feel guilty for being successful in life... who could attend church if he wanted, or not if he chose, without being ridiculed for either.

Self flagellation and misery is expected of everyone with an ounce of success or ability beyond the average while in return for their self-immolation they're rewarded with beratement and diatribes for being an evil person who "made it" in life.

It sickens me... and frankly, I blame the liberalization of our country for it. What price freedom, huh? What price equality? What price socialism. One of these days, you liberals will realize that not all men are created equal. Shockingly, some have skills and abilities which exceed others'... and for this you believe they should be penalized or held back for the "good" of the less "fortunate".

I'm tired of your unrealistic ideals based on nothing but a nonsensical misunderstanding of the nature of man. Wisen up. Wake up. Stop trying to force the round world into a square hole.

Gosh... according to you Ugzug, the country seemed perfect when you were growing up yet you are still a spoiled, pompous, faggot crying about injustice on a message board... what gives? I think your old man should have belted you a few more times to put you in your place and teach you to show some compassion for those less fortunate than yourself. Some good ole "christian" backhanding would do you some good.

I read somewhere that if you took all of the worlds wealth and divided it equally among the masses that in 5-10 years the same people who have all the money now would end up with all the money again.

Don’t give me that less fortunate bull shit.

A wise man once said to me "If you want to help people, imagine how many more people you can help if you are filthy stinking rich."

I know I had a point in here somewhere but I lost it.

It's noticable now because you see it every day, all day long on the news, internet etc. Things were just as fucked then but you just didn't know about it.

If youre going to yearn for the 'good ol days', stick with the language.

Personally I feel the country has been on a decline since GWB took office. So I guess I blame the conservatives. Might be because im more aware of the political world now that im growing older, but shit certainly seemed a lil more under control with old Bill in office.

Hmm, my teach put me through a test recently to score me from 1-10, 1 being as far conservative as you can go, and 10 being as far liberal.

I got an 8.85. It just seems like common sence to me. I guess thats why I'm no politician.

Haha that is soo true Lyion. Anyway, have any of you read Terry Goodkinds "Sword of Truth" series? The Imperial Order in that series is an excellent example of what would happen to society if the liberals had thier way. I am not saying that conservatives have it all figured out but......

One other thing i find ironic about liberals (especially the poloticians) is that they are happy to see other peoples "Wealth" spread around, but would be irate if that had to actually share thier own weatlth.

Laslty I dont belive in this whole fate has made me poor and useless thing. I was a waste of skin in high school, barley passed. But I went on to join the military (which almost anyone can do these days) and found a sense of self worth and a trade. A good majority of americas despondent are that way by choice, they would rather have some one esle do the work for them and blame all thier ills on society.

I'm fairly young (23) and my 'good 'ol days' that I remember were basically my childhood, but even in my lifetime I've seen the decay. Possibly I had grown up fairly sheltered so I wasn't aware of the true state of things, and I'm just now being exposed to them? But I think that might only be partially the case.

Kids are getting into sex and drugs at a much younger age now. Even little things, such as swearing, are becoming more prevalent in the younger kids. Man, back when I was in elementary school, we would whisper in hushed tones things like "She's the b-word", but I've heard young kids say "Fuck" without a shame in the world.

It's apparent everywhere, in the behaviour of children (hell, and adults) to even our language. It makes me want to cry every time I receive an e-mail from someone at work and see "u", "ur", "y", and "o" instead of just typing the god damned words out like an adult in a professional environment.

I tend to be more liberal-minded than Ugz on many issues, but I agree with his post whole-heartedly. Quite frankly, I'm worried for the future of the country if the next generation of leaders is this lazy, whining, sheltered, id-driven teenage population, who's main concern is satisfying their base instinct for pleasure. Yeah - there's exceptions to that, but you'll likely be shot by one of the rest of your angsty peers upset at your success before you have a chance to try to rise above.

Now thats a bit extreme example of what you think liverals are actually like. Liberals way want to help the poor, they do not demand everyone be poor while the richest stay rich and untouchable.

Rich is rich, whether it be Liberal or Conservative. Neither party would be willing to give up their wealth for the common "Good".

Granted my example is a bit extreme, but no more extreme than saying all conservatives want the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer. It is as if some people think conservatives take glee in keeping people poor.

I think the no child left behind bill (although there are a few flaws in it) is a much better way to spend tax money than increasing welfare. I just don’t think some one should get paid to sit home on their ass while I work a 50-60 hour work week to foot that bill. Don’t get me wrong there are people that deserve/need welfare, such as single mothers that are abandoned by the baby’s fathers. But the welfare system as it exists today is far too exploitable.
