Besides being a man whore (which I'd then be in direct competition with Xav)... I've seriously been considering a change.

Sooo, for all you IT people... let me ask you something - despite the problems in the IT world (with outsourcing and everything else), how do YOU see the job situation for network administration?

I already have a 4 year degree - but I figured I'd go a tech school and pick up an Associates of Applied Technology in Networking, get my CCNA, Security+ and maybe the MCP to start off with.

With that type of education what are the chances of finding anything? What's a realistic pay to expect? I'm sick of the Department of Labors bullshit 6 gallizion dollars a year estimates (which are never right).

I know health care is where *it's* at today - but I have absoluletely zero interest in it.

Health care... pfft. However, doing IT for a health care company... wuwu.

If you do opt for a tech school, you had better get a hold of past graduates and ask what they think about it. Don't let the school tell you what to expect.

Realstate Diek.. Realstate.. but in a state like idaho or wyoming. You can buy land really cheap and if you can find a developer sell pretty high

Real Estate will be drying up in a few years. So if you want to be succesful, hit it hard and fast.

Stayce does IT for a hospital and she is pretty successful. Talk to her.

OK here it is imo

IT healthcare is the only way to go in IT at this point - but you should really have a back ground with the software you are using to help you out. Um really if you can't be level 3 support in it, it seems like a bitch job to me.

As for real estate you will have t odo something to set your self apart, I read an article a couple months ago that said based on current trends you will see 1 in every 8 people in america having a real estate license. ... that being said the way I have seen it work really well - You buy a house that needs repair in an up and coming area, lets syaing you buy for 100,00grand put in the work and money . 15 grand or so give or take and 6 months work, turn around and sell it, yourself, for 185 grand with in a year. I know a couple people that do it and they are very successful.

I would also look into a couple different things....since I am not 100% sure what you are looking for so I will roll out some ideas that I know work well.

-Aflac
-a self propelled home bussiness that brings you in some income with out much work
-Dog walkers ( if you live in a metro city area, jesus you can make 40 -50 a hour easy) OUr old dog walker was cheap and was 150 a week for 20 min a day.
-Ebay bussiness


these are just a couple ideas. I thought of in a couple seconds.

Really you need to stop thinking one job that will send me to retirement, odd I had this same conversation last night, if you really want finacial freedom you need to have a couple different sources of income so that you are always streaming money in.

If you gonna "buy house, fix it, sell it" you need to hook up with someone like me, who can provide cheep material/labor for the repair. I have about 15 full time realestate developers like that who constantly hire my business to fix houses. Your repair cost might be 5-10% more than if you would buy materials in Home Depot and did it yourself but you save yourself shitload of time. All of my customers get me to estimate job before they close on house and add it into mortgage. That way we start work few days after closing and newly remodeled/fixed up house available for sale within 2 weeks of closing.
One of my guys goes through about a house a month and said that he quit his job and lives off the profits. All he does is signs the paperwork.

ganzo is 100% correct if you can not do the work yourself fast and correct, then hire out a quality contractor that has a history with this sort of thing

Except the Real estate market is about to tank.

You might have 24 months of it as a small upward profit model, but then I believe it'll start to lose value.If you have a small fortune, real estate is a great short term investment model. If not I wouldn't suggest it, unless you are doing something similar to what Ganzo is.

IT is still viable, but you need marketable skills and to be in the right area. Java programmers with Linux exp and Apache/MYSQL are needed by a lot of business. MS Certified people who can actually code .NET are in demand. Network Admins, SAP, and Peoplesoft are still hot.

What isn't hot are entry level programming jobs, any type of first or second level support <hello, outsourcing>, and Project Managers seem to be the first to get waxed now a days.

THe only reason I suggested real estate is because it can become one of those incomes that comes in that helps support the big income you can make.

some years it will be high while some of your other things are slow, some years it will be slow while your other stuff is big. I think once you get into it you can have it runnning with out little work on your part if done correctly.

well i would agree if it were like CA or something.. but Idaho, Wyoming have ALOT of open land they have ready to be bought and developed... same with all the surround states.even washington and oregon.

but you could make some money with realstate then buy apartment buildings etc.. lots of ways to make money

Lyion... remember that people are flooding out of CA. those people are settling in CA, Wyoming, NEvada. they will continue to leave until CA is back on track.. which means never. Shit thats why i am gonna move to idaho to run our realstate business and so my parents don't have to pay the precentage to the developer to sel the land.. they will pay me.

we have already sold 7, 1 acre parcels for 90k each .. and all they are is dirt and a powerline and we will have like 70 acres (mostly 1 acre to be parcels) and all bought for less than our current house on 2 acres is worth

Depends where you are in idaho. My wife's mom lives in Sunvalley and alot of the houses there in certain parts go for MILLIONS. She does real estate there and loves it. I personally cannot stand the place, sure it's pretty and all that but my god everybody knows everyone else and all their personal business.

it's different in every place you live, in west seattle where I live the house across the street from me sold about 6 months ago for almost half a mil, it was revamped and will be sold for over three quarters of a million. Expensive stuff and there isn't even a damn view!

yea some places are expensive.. but i would think alot of those have houses.. these are nothing but dirt.

Nampa, Meridian and just outside of Boise is prime terriroty. But the only pain is gettin it zoned correctly

yea our old house when we sold it was 750k

and the house we had before was like 675k when we sold it.. and the people tore it down and sold the dirt.. for 1.3 million a few years later.

well you can go in and meet the governor who is in jeans and a collared shirt. Its quiet.. and its not much different than where i live now. the area knows what each person in the area is doing (area = about 15 houses)

thats another reason to live outside Boise but work in boise hehe.

but when you can live with around 35k a year comfortably... that aint a bad thing
