Trust is very important to have between parent and child, and you can't trust someone who barges in or rummages through your belongings without asking. I can't imagine this creating anything but resentment and paranoia.

I can understand where you are coming from. But, let's not forget - as a minor your (and I'm not talking about YOU in particular, just generally speaking here) parents are liable for you and your actions. You are living in THEIR home. If your parents decide they want to look through your closet, you really don't have any say.

When I was 16 I used to get pissed because I didn't really have any privacy, but now that I am older I understand the "why."

Anyway, you do have a valid opinion... but it's hard for younger people to understand where the older crowd is coming from.

my brother tired the "my privacy" thing when my parents found pot in his room.

they said sure you can have privacy and then gave him a bill for all the food he ate and the standard going rate for a room..

they said pay this every month and we wont go into "your" room.. dont and admit its really our room and we can do what we want with anything inside it..

i was a bit smarter and hit my pot outside the house

Things like that cell phone commercial with the girls pretending to use cells phones irritate me. You want a cell phone? Get off your butt, get a job and earn one.

Graecus hit it on the head. Our kids are learning nothing but dang they sure have high self-esteems. Then they hit the real world and can't cope.

If your kids can't cope with the "real world" when they hit the streets, it's your fault, not the schools. There are plenty of successful, productive citizens in the country that got their educations at public schools. I think you are all talking out your assholes. I'm not saying there is nothing wrong with the system, I just think you are all overreacting or have some other unspoken agenda.

I agree that parents aren't doing their jobs as well. It's hard to do anything to change that. Schools, however, are something I can (maybe) affect.

If more parents taught their kids how to get along with other human beings, how to take pride in their work, respect or gave them a fucking hug once in a while and told them they loved them it wouldn't be up to the schools to do it.

How do you propose to make parents do that?

You can't. If parents refuse to take responsibility for their children, someone has to. Who do you suggest?

Holy shit, dude. Being you are the poster child for hating 1/2 the country, I find that sentence comical.

Maybe you should call your parents up and start bitching about this.

Damn Skippy!

I agree with your points on parental responsibility, Toss. The problem is due to the lack of morals so many kids don't have real supportive parents. How do we rectify the lack of responsibiity by adults?

It's hard for a generation of selfish / self-severing adults to raise kids with a set of good morals.

The school's job is to EDUCATE, not indoctrinate. Our teachers are charged with teaching our kids to read, write, add and subract. Teaching right from wrong is the parents' job.

So I wasn't the only person who get iratated by that commercial. That and one of the sprint commercials where the kids complain about the parents being restictive of theri minutes and the parents complaining about the kids going over their minutes.

All I keep thinking is, Take the fucking phone away if they keep doing it. But no, not in this day and age, that would be cruel and unusual punishment and hell, I bet some group could make a case with child services and take your child away if you took their cell phone away.
