Yes, I have. I've had enough experience with it that I think I can speak about it with an educated opinion. I've had one family member kill themselves over schizophrenia, and am dealing with quite a lot of shit and drama from a currently schizophrenic (or at least psychotic) family member. Some other experiences with it as well, but it's kind of a touchy subject so I'll just stop here.

tee hee hee....

I did an internship at Texas Children's Hospital and had a supervisor who worked in Manhattan at Bellevue's ER as a psychologist, and she told me stories about some folks with remarkably elaborate tales, where they had come from, how long they had been alive, you would be suprised.

Those would be delusions - which can be much more fanciful and out there - not hallucinations. From a directing perspective, it is hard to convey delusions while keeping the basis of the movie from initially unfolding (it wouldn't be as dramatic to immediately show him acting absolutely bizarrely and completely immersed in delusion), but it gave the very wrong impression that he actually experienced those things as hallucinations, which gives a gross misconception to people unfamiliar to schizophrenia of what it is about. Hallucinations (let alone enourmous hallucinations) can't be intricately maintained over long periods of time - if they could, the person wouldn't be able to keep a job at a university for sure.

Jennifer Connelly boobies were in fine form in Hot Spots co-starring Mr. Miami Vice.

I worked in a mental institution for a while, and while you may have some personal experience with schizophrenics, I think you might be surprised some of the things the things they see, hear, and do. Long term schizophrenia is some devestating shit, and the chemical cocktails are even worse. Strange thing is they can function well for long preiods of time and then something sets them off and they start hallucinating again. Truly a tragic disease.
The object of life is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well preserved body, but rather to come screaching in to the grave sidelong in a beatup wreck of a body, loudly proclaiming "WOW What a ride!"
