Consider, however, that an awful lot of those professors are teaching med school or other highly advanced technical courses, and could probably make easily double, if not 5x as much were they to go to work in private industry. They might even be under a lot more pressure in academia, as there is a serious "publish or perish" pressure among all faculty at big universities.

For example, look at the very last guy, "Mitchel S. Berger" at UC SF. I don't know with absolute certainty that he's teaching med school, but that's 95% of what UC SF does, is med school and medical research, it's completely different than most other UC campuses. A salary of 107k is small beans for a MD, which is what he most likely is to be a professor there. Further looking at UCSF, you have listed a guy there, "Stanley B. Prusiner" who is making 54k. Now, I dunno about the rest of the country, but 54k here is just barely above entry level. Hell, I made nearly that much at the first Network Engineering job I ever had, which I got with 0 experience as a network engineer, little knowledge, and no degree. For you to list 54k as some kind of outrageous salary, at least for this area, is absolutely ludicrous.

Yes, some are athletics coaches, but compare the salaries of some of those to the salaries that places like FSU, Miami, Nebraska, etc. pay their coaches. Lastly, consider how few people there are on that list, compared to how many total professors there are in the UC system, and we're talking a VERY small percentage here.

Now, if you have a beef with some of the funds the directors get paid, that I can understand far better. Again though, playing devils advocate, some of those positions are of an equivalent level to the CEO of a large corporation, and employs much the same skill-set in many ways. So, I'm not COMPLETELY shocked at the salaries.

Neither do I. Look at how many NFL players that can hardly form a complete sentence being paid millions upon millions. If you want the tickets, you'll buy them. If you want the education, you'll pay the tuition.

By the way... the fact tha tuition is going up is a GOOD thing. It's getting to the point now where a 4-year degree is about as common as a damn high school diploma - completely saturating the job markets. The less people who have degrees the more money those of us who have one can make. The more people who have degrees the lower wages go. To many fucking people in school as is.

The NFL is private sector, and they compete for those jobs. Heavily compete. Unlike college, it isn't coming out of your tax dollars, also.

The problem with these dorks is the lack of competition, the fact they probably aren't nearly the best people, and they are vastly overpaid to boot.

Philosophy professors clearing 500k/year in take home is ridiculous. Moreso because a lot of that dough comes from our tax money.

No wonder its so astronomical to go to even a mediocre college.

Lyion, who do you think pays for the stadiums to be built for those NFL players? IIRC, a few years ago in Cleveland, Mayor Jane Campbell laid off tons of city workers,(fire dept, EMT's, police) just so she owuld have more money in the budget to build a new stadium
