Devils advocate incoming:
You can't expect people to be tolerant of a culture that screams bloody murder for things most people accept as a good solid ribbing. People make fun of bald people, fat people, dumb people, goofy people, < insert group here >. That's life. You can get a sense of humor about life, or alternatively, you can scream homophobe and sue everyone. The course of action seems to be following the latter. If that's the case, homosexual prejudice will only get worse, as more and more people become pissed off at the double standard that arises (see racial threads).
As an example:
My girlfriend's brother and wife decided to have a party at their house for some reason. A few people there started trashing the house a little bit, basically acting all wild like normal partygoers. A few people also happened to be making out on their couch. My girlfriend's brother and wife obviously didn't want their house trashed, and people feeling each other up on their furniture, and told them. Their response: OMGZBBQ HOMOPHOBE, followed by a heated exchange between some guy and my girlfriend's brother's wife. When my girlfriend's brother intervened, he pinned the guy against the wall and was about to beat the shit out of him, but didn't. The guy was gay. He knew he'd be sued, called more epithets like homophobe, sexist, or arrested as a hate crime/gay basher. If the guy was a heterosexual he would have gotten his ass beat right there, but he didn't. It's wrong.
Also as another devil's advocate point of view, I'm interested since I used to discuss this question with other people:
If all of the human population of the world engaged in < insert whatever here >, which resulted in the eventual annihilation/extinction of the human species, is it an acceptable behavior?
This of course could be anything, but in this case it'd be homosexuality.
You could argue that the world could all be homosexual, but with modern science, you could in-vitro everyone that wanted kids. But that's a very recent discovery, and if everyone was homosexual 100 years ago that point would be moot.
You could also argue that people could just have a single heterosexual encounter solely for procreation. This would be more along the lines of where I would probably argue it, although if you're having heterosexual sex you're not fully homosexual. I couldn't get aroused for another man, even if it meant having a child, for example, because I'm heterosexual.
It's interesting to discuss I think. The problem comes when you can't talk about it at all for fear of being labeled homophobe, like what has already occured in this thread.
