Decorating Ideas?

Postby The Kizzy » Wed Mar 01, 2006 5:43 pm

Building a house this summer . I am a huge fan of color. I love to see bold colors on the walls, etc. I know dark colored carpet is a PITA to keep clean. We used to have Hunter Green carpet and I had to vacuum 4 times a day. So Im thinking nuetral colors or hard wood for most of the floors. Anyone have any ideas? Or any idea where I can get some ideas? I have 4 bedrooms, 3 bathroooms, and I am getting a huge kitchen. Thanks.

Have hardwood floors, and paint the floors/walls/ceiling pitch black and paint white stars all over

it will feel like you are a mystic space god

and will also be super disorienting

I'll tell you the same thing I tell customers.. you can ask til the cows come home, but in the end, it's your house and you need to pick what suits your eye the best.

It's really hard to gain perspective on what looks good to other people, and ideas from other people will inevitably be biased.

Personally, I'm into neutral colors because I don't want to have to repaint the whole thing aside from touchups when I resell - vivid colors on resale can be really great, or they can be your downfall because everyone doesn't want to have to tone down everything when they move in.

Are you custom building or is it a production builder?

If you're dead set on getting ideas elsewhere, I'd recommend http://www.hgtv.com - I love that channel and they have some really neat ideas.

Sometimes Home Depot or Lowes has catalogues with decent ideas - but yeah, the home improvement shows on TV show a lot of really cool stuff.

if you dig color I would go with a darker color hardwood/laminate whatever floor and then go nuts with the colors
