Gun question

Postby Diekan » Wed Mar 01, 2006 8:32 pm

I've decided to get a 9mm. My Rossi .44 special is cool, but need something new to fire at the range.

Was looking at the Taurus PT92, anyone fire one of these? They any good?

I'm going with a 9mm because, quite honestly, I'm not up for spending over 700 for a good .45

I have to say it Harrison's right Glocks are rock solid hand guns. Very rare jams, solid construction, and a good feel. I own a 9mm Glock the only thing I like better is my .44 Ruger Super War Hawk. A good friend is a gun freak he's got well over 60 in his collection and as for 9mm's he swears buy Glocks it's what he carries on his person. It's what made me get a Glock, and it's what my sister is looking at getting.

Has a break down of all of their pistols. Are you planning on using this just at the range or do you have a consealed carry permit?

Taurus' are made in Brazil on old Beretta tooling. The PT's are licensed copies of the 92fs or M9. They are fairly good value for the price, but lack in finish and overall quality when compared to a real Beretta. The design of this pistol in general promotes issues with accuracy because of how the barrel locks when in battery. However most still shoot quite acceptably. My 92f knocks falling plates down all day, but you won't see me on the line in IDPA with it.

I would recommend a Springfield Armory XD over the Glock, especially when you're considering price to be a major factor in your purchase decision. The XD has numerous saftey features the Glock does not incorporate, such as the grip saftey and loaded chamber indicator. This line of pistols is, for me, much more ergonomic than the Glock, the sight line on the Glock pistols feels out of touch and high. Abidextrious magazine release, easy field stripping, I think Springfield took what Glock pioneered and made it better, for a better price and overall value. You will see me shooting Three Gun competitions with my XD-40. Look for a brand new one with case, bore brush, factory fired target and 2 high cap magazines for $450.

Eldred I think you mean Super Redhawk(double action)? Or Super Blackhawk(Single action)?

You mention $700 for a 'good' .45. If polymer pistols aren't your thing and you're in the market for a good quality but low feature 1911, the Springfield Mil-Spec models can be had for quite a reasonable price. Hell, I bought my stainless 1911 "Loaded" for $600 new. Granted it was part of a 3 gun purchase and since I do all my dealing with one specific dealer he cuts me some slack generally.

a .45 of any type wont really cost you much more than a 9mm.

except for ammo, .45 starts to add up after awhile :-x

    I recommend a Mark-19 fully automatic 40 mike-mike grenade launcher or a possibly a Browning M2 .50 Caliber machine gun.

well for the 9mm I agree with Harrison. Glock 17 ftw. If you have cash to throw around Sig Sauer makes a nice 9 as well.

If they were legal I'd get a 60 like I carried on active (I still don't know why they decided to go to the gay SAW). That would rock.

They're legal. I don't know where you people get the idea that machine guns are not in fact legal.

It's simply been illegal to manufacture new civilian legal ones since May of 1986. For that reason, an M60 will run you around $45k to $50k.

Had a big post explaining NFA laws, but the board keeps rejecting it. Short and sweet. Full autos are legal. There's no special permit you can get. They simply have to be registered and $200 tax on the registration. No you can't have anything made after 1986. And the whole shitting thing is unconstitutional.

I don't know. It seems that since whenever I upgraded firefox if I try to post something longer than a paragraph or two, it gives me "sent a bad request" or some such bullshit. I'm trying internet explorer now. Why, did you want the explanation?

Interesting - I never knew that. I was always under the impression they were illegal, learn something every day.
