Id agree most punk that really rocks is shit no ones ever heard of and local but there are some awsome bands on hellcat and fat records and a few scatered other labels as well. I doubt they are concerned with cd and shirt sales all that much its just a perk. against me leftover crack and the sainte catherines are a few i cant hink of that truelly rock and arent exactly local to me.

Why dont you enlighten me drem as to what punk is about.Lotta corperations sponser warped but a lotta good bands and awareness booths goes on there to. The bands walk round in the crowd and talk to the fans. Its what you make of it A huge company sponsered commercial event or a punk/ska/hardcore festivel. Tell me somewhere that isnt ruined by corperate america?

We have a band around here called the Happy Bastards and they're exactly what Tossica described. That is punk music, to me, not a bunch of rich fucks that have people write their songs for them and they wear like prada and expensive clothes and drive nice cars and sell band merchandise and shit... that's not what punk is about, to me. Punk is a state of mind, not a musical genre. If you think Pennywise and NOFX and pop music like that is the pinnacle of punk rock then we probably shouldn't even be talking to eachother about it because we're never going to agree.

Before Rancid signed to Epitaph they were on Lookout! records, where half the band was releasing records a few years earlier in Operation Ivy. Rancid was around for two or three years, released a s/t EP on Lookout!, signed to Epitaph a year later for the full-length debut (w/o lars), then put another EP out a year later on Fat Wreck Chords (lars' first appearance)... the next three full-lengths were on Epitaph before they moved to Hellcat.

punk is how you describe a rock band that hasn't quite learned how to play their instruments yet, but they play loudly to make up for it

ps, that's intended as a jab at punk, but just a generalization

I don't even care anymore. I rock out just as hard to a Mozart album as I do to a Zeppelin album. Though lately I've been finding myself with a blunt for my chronic and juice for my tonic so I start spinning Nas albums and relaxing...

People that love their music are awesome =) having a preference shows a lot about a person. My boyfriend loves punk, or did...but still does too and he admits it, with a big grin, lol. Recently he really got into the new Saves The Day because 1)he loves them and 2) it is punk and different from their albums before this and he digs that. (punk) he was definitely a punk kid still is really. Anyway it's hard to see through the politics and money in music/bands but when I hear good music it makes me happy and it doesn't matter to me how popular they are or rich, etc..I just like the music.

Punk is a style that has been around for a while and it's definitely a stage, but punks are always punks. right toss?

i was replying to dammuzis. i'm sure you know all of that stuff but i just don't think anything on epitaph is really good... but i mean my favorite punk band is radio birdman, so you can probably see why i don't like epitaph...
