An Ocean Apart (My Band)

Postby Skytook » Wed Jul 12, 2006 12:34 am

Yes!

I spent the day in my basement, and once more I present my band's latest product! In the past there has been some jibber jabber over my vocals inability to hit the right notes. As promised, I worked with him immensely during the recording of this song, and I believe that that problem (though it still exists) has definitley improved.

I love listening to feedback, whether it be supportive or critical. Please, give this a fair listen and let me know what you think. I think this is easily our best recording to date, even if there are only three.

Like I always say, I think it's pretty good for four 18 year olds in a basement!

The song is called My Consequence, and for the record, I'm the guitarrist. (A lot of people asked me that in the last thread.)

Enjoy! I hope...

I was under the impression this was a general conversation area.

If I had a choice between listening to An Ocean Apart or having cancer eat away at my testicles I would choose the latter.

PS - It's not THAT bad. I think you need a bit more work on your instrumentals and your singer sounds like a cliche emo geek ala Hoobastank, New Found Glory, other shit that preteen girls vigorously rub their vaginas over. There's nothing unique about you guys. I think you should work on the music aspect of your style as opposed to making something people will like. Express yourself, don't cater to a crowd.

it's not terrible, but you guys definitely need to tighten things up. save up $100 and buy some metronome headphones and use them at every practice. it will be extremely hard to work with at first, but once you get the hang of it your ability to play as a single unit will increase by leaps and bounds. some band guys will tell you "nah we don't like to use metronomes, it messes with the flow." these guys are wrong. having an exact tempo does wonders for a tune-- and having an erratic tempo can ruin an otherwise good song. rushing during the heavier parts, dragging during the simpler/easier parts, and late hits are all things that people will notice when they hear your stuff.

i don't know which of your band members is to blame for the instability i hear in all three songs, but that's just as well-- working on playing together should involve everyone anyway.

not bad for four 18-year-olds, indeed. i think that with a year or two of focused rehearsal (with special emphasis on the togetherness issues), you guys would polish up nicely.
