A lady on my freecycle group posted she was giving away a couple leashes and a small harness. The following is her explanation of why.

By request: Why I'm giving away leashes and a harness.

I tried to take my kitty out in a harness with a retractable leash for
the first time. It was early in the morning in a new neighborhood,
and, as I'd just gotten out of the shower, I thought I could get away
with just a bathrobe. A car came up the street, and the kitty
panicked. He pulled the leash all the way out before I could even
push the button to stop him. When he realized he couldn't go any
farther, he began to run in circles around me, caught my legs, pulled
me to the ground (he weighed 25 pounds), and finally backed out of the
harness, and speed-climbed a tree. Not realizing the leash had wrapped
itself somehow in the tie of my robe and was laying in the pile with
the leash and the harness, and being more concerned with Py's safety
then what I was wearing, I hadn't noticed that three cars, including a
police car, and half a dozen neighbors, all dressed for work, were
standing there watching the whole scene with their mouths open.

Py ran back down the tree, let me scoop him up, and, clutching my cat
and the robe, I ran to the front door - you guessed it, LOCKED OUT. I
let myself in the garage and sat in my car till eveyone went away.
Then went to the back door and let myself in the house.

Hence, I no longer need the leashes or the harness.
