What do these medical terms mean?

Postby The Kizzy » Mon Mar 05, 2007 6:10 pm

Comp Metab panel
Glycated Hemoglobin
Thyroxine(T4), TOT
Thyroid Stim (TSH)
T3/T4 Uptake
CBC w/ plt auto comp

These are all tests that were run on my 5 yr old. All i was told was test results came back normal (thankfully) Just wondering what they tested for. Thanks

Glycated Hemoglobin sounds like a diabetes related test.

Don't quote me though

"CBC /w plt auto comp" : I'm pretty sure is Complete Blood Count with platelets, and I assume the auto comp = that they use a computer to count it rather than a human. Littly hairy on the last bit.

Hemoglobin is the oxygen carrying part of your Red Blood Cells, which is usually tested when they look for anemia, but I'm not sure about the Glycated part.

The rest of it sounds like it has to do with his thyroid (the Thyroid Stim, T3/T4, and Thyrotoxin stuff).

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong. Been a little while since I've been in that sort of a class and had to remember such things.

Sounds like he tested normal for having aids.

or it might have just been part of regular bloodwork done on all kids.

Comp Metab panel

Complete Metabolism panel

Wow, I never let doctors do tests without me knowing exactly what they are doing. Then if there are extra things on my bill or statement, I call up and ask. They shouldnt have a problem telling you what they were running and what for, and if they do have a problem answering your questions, time to find a new doctor ><

Standard thyroid workup with a HgbA1C thrown in. Thats the Glycated Hemoglobin. It tests for the lvl of actual glycated hgb in the body. If it's elevated, it means you have untreated diabetes. It's how we tell if diabetics have lied about taking their insulin. It also helps us diagnose new diabetes from a one time elevation in blood sugar.

The rest of the lab is basic blood counts and chemistries. Comp Metab is the chemistry side meaning Complete Metabolic Profile or (Chem-12, CMP) for short.

They must be searching for a reason for you to be tired, weak etc... Counts are Chemistries are basic, but the rest being thyroid and the A1C would explain my theory.

I get A1C tests every 3 mo and i do not take insulin (nor will I ever). I use it as an average to see how my overall blood sugars are progressing. ( i should be at 6 but i am at 7 i was at almost 8.7 to give an example)
For you
