for the younger crowd, just wait until you've gone thru a few elections

it's pretty easy to remain optimistic about politicians if you've only voted once or maybe twice

but when you see it happen over and over that people make election promises then can't/won't follow up on them, you get tired of hearing words/promises

People who are impressed by Obama merely by his stature and words are blissfully ignorant. What has this clown done in his life, politically or otherwise? He's a nobody with old ideas. A vote for Obama is a total and complete gamble.

Here's a joke I heard today... just told it to Jay on the phone:

Q: The Hildebeast, Obama, and McCain are on a sinking ship in the middle of the ocean. There are no life vests aboard. Who gets saved?

A: America.

Your statement has no weight because i'd bet money that you voted for Bush both times. You voted in someone who not only did no better than Obama politically prior to taking office, he also lacks Obama's speaking ability and basic fucking common sense. Carry on with the bashing of the person who can't understand the simple fact that "I hate words" in a political thread means I hate meaningless promises.

I did vote for Bush twice, and I regret the second time I voted for him. Bush isn't conservative enough. He's why I dropped out of the republican party. I consider myself to be an independant conservative. But still, your statement is a verbal toedance around my question. What has Obama done? Answer: NOTHING. End of story.

He's done almost exactly as much as Abraham Lincoln had done when HE got elected president, and that worked out reasonably well, I think.

What had Bush done before you voted for him? Please don't say Govenor of Texas because that holds as much weight as the so called nothingness of Obama's Senate seat. What had he done in his personal or political life that made you feel as if he was the right man for the job? You voted for someone based on what you felt he could do but now that it's going the other way, you're lumping people who are doing that as idiots. Plus not only did you vote for Bush once, you voted for him again after he had already done a piss poor job the first term. Again, you have not a foot to stand on.

Again, you just can't answer the question. Inserting "what did <insert anybody here> do?" is totally avoiding the question. We're not talking about Lincoln or anybody else at the moment. WTF did Obama do?

Well, he first started out as a community organizer for a church group trying to improve conditions for poor families in bad areas of Chicago. Then, he went to Harvard Law for his law degree, where he was the first ever black president of the Harvard Law Review. When he got back to Illinois, first he spent a few years teaching Constitutional Law, and then he ended up getting elected to the State Senate, and served there for 8 years, from 96 to '04. Obviously, in '04 he got elected to the US Senate.

So, he's got a background working to help the poor, a law degree, he taught Constitutional law, and he's spent 12 years in state and national government.

So, no, he hasn't spent 30 years in Washington or something, but I consider that a GOOD thing, as it means he's not beholden to the lobbyist brigades. Look at McCain, his chief adviser used to do PR campaigns for Ferdinand Marcos and African warlords. Plus he has tons of other lobbyists close to him as integral parts of his team. That scares the crap out of me, honestly.

Anyway, there you have it. I'd consider 12 years at the highest state or national levels to be pretty good background, especially when combined with a personal background in Constitutional law.
