yeah. they're both just basically hip hop bands or whatever.... and the difference is the lyrics. rage is relevant. korn's just angry

*shrug* Suck is in the eye of the beholder. Some of RATMs early songs were quite good, I thought, even though I'm not a big fan.

Hell, I have my own cheesy metal band that I enjoy, 5 Finger Death Punch. *shrug* Everyone's tastes are different.

The whole "angsty white boy rap" thing sucks IMO. I don't see much difference between Rage, Korn, Limp Bizkit and Stinkin Park. Not my style.

Drem wrote:nope, it makes interesting lyrics. and shame on you for saying korn "broke new ground" in guitar sounds (what exactly do you mean, anyway? what songs in particular have ground-beaking guitar work?) and then turning around and dissing rage. morello is both of korn's guitarists and then some

bah i refuse to accept shame for saying that. they took the 7-string deeper, sicker, and uglier than anyone ever took a 7-string, and they are recognizable by their guitar sound alone. (josh, the same is true for fieldy's bass but i did not like his sound in the least).

and for the record: sure, morello can do some cramazing shit with his guitar-- and he is instantly recognizable as well. but my beef with him is that it seemed like that's all he ever wanted to do. here's how you write a RATM song (for audioslave, just replace "angry rap lyrics" with "cornell ruining his voice"):

Code: Select all
verse: choppy guitar riff + unremarkable rhythm section + angry rap lyrics
chorus: simple two-bar line + catchy phrase
verse: see above
chorus: see above
bridge: gimmicky space alien guitar solo using wacky effects that you'll never ever hear in another RATM song, EVER
chorus: see above
extra loud part: some variation of the chorus

but that's all tangential. you're assuming i'm dissing RATM for the same reasons that i'm praising korn, and that's not true at all. of course morello is a "better" guitarist, but i'm just not willing to throw korn under the bus like everyone else-- they have their merits, and i respect them. and above all, remember that i don't even particularly care for either band.
