Close, but no cigar.

Damn tough stunt, though.

dunno

he was trying to break the world record (8:58) for holding breath under water

to make it more difficult, he also chained himself in, and attempted to escape

he lasted over 7 minutes, which imo is still pretty fucking good, but really, if you're going for the world record, you better get a lot closer :ugh:

We watched that this evening. I was talking to Gid and his mom about it. I think he's a moron and some of what he calls "magic" is just publicity stunts...like the living in ice or box, standing on a pole.
But I like him for his street magic.
I like any "magician" for their street magic. I dont like watching the Statue of Liberty disappear /yawn

One of the last things the announcer said was something like "I dont think anyone who saw this could sit there and say that this was a failure" .....uh but it was. He set out for 9min and only hit 7. Thats not hitting your mark..in other words, failing.

Was still interesting to watch. Huge waste of 2 hours, but somewhat interesting.

the ice block, living on top of the pole, and this stunt weren't magic, or intended to be magic

He did pass out at least. That was entertaining.
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.

I wasn't aware he did anything accept makes several attempts to put himself near death. There are people who refer to him as a magician for this shit that he does. That's where I don't think he deserves to be called a magician. If he pulls rabbits out of hats on the side? Hey, my bad. He is a magician.

I was impressed with the levitation until I learned how to do it

every once in a while, when I do it for someone that's not expecting it, they're shocked

but if they have an idea it's coming, it's really easy to spot

Alot of people just saw him go for the 9 minutes.....what most dont realize is for the last week, he has lived inside a bubble of water. He was fed and relieved himself through tubes. So the 9 minute holding breath stunt was made even harder because of his week long stunt imediatly prior to trying to hold his breath.

About day 6 of his bubble experience he was complaining of severe ear aches and sharp pains in all muscles of his body. After that i dont think i could have held my breath for 1 minute let alone 7.
Why fight it, i am a Man Whore!

even if you got into the water 10 seconds before, I don't think you could hold your breath for 7 minutes either ;)

I know I sure as heck can't. I think even back when I was a swimmer the best I oculd do was under 4 minutes

From Associated Press:

(AP) David Blaine was unconscious and having convulsions when he was rescued from his 8-foot aquarium during a breath-holding stunt, his trainer said Tuesday.

"I wasn't focused on records; I was thinking of a rescue," said trainer Kirk Krack, a free-diving expert. Blaine was convulsing and "unconscious when we brought him to the surface. If we hadn't intervened, he would still be at the bottom of the sphere doing a breath-hold."

The 33-year-old illusionist had been submerged in the aquarium with an oxygen mask for a week. Rescue divers jumped into the 2,000-gallon saltwater tank Monday night and hauled him up.

He was rescued as he struggled to break a breath-holding record of 8 minutes, 58 seconds. Blaine, who had spent some 177 hours underwater, went without air for 7 minutes, 8 seconds as a finale to his endurance stunt at Lincoln Center, which was televised live on ABC.

Blaine checked himself out of Roosevelt Hospital on Tuesday. Friends took him out of the hospital in a wheelchair and then helped him walk to a waiting car.

At home, he took a hot shower, played cards and was able to eat.

But "he was crying" Monday night, said Dr. Murat Gunel, the head of Blaine's medical team. "He still feels today that he let people down."

Blaine's liver and kidney functions had suffered while he was submerged but are now improving. His skin, which was peeling Monday night, "looks much better today," said Gunel.

His team concluded that strenuous training and losing 50 pounds so his body would require less oxygen left Blaine too tired before he entered the sphere.

They said Blaine wants to try the breath-holding stunt again. Next time, he plans to be in better shape, and do it without being in a tank for a week beforehand.

"He is going over everything he did and analyzing what happened," said Gunel, associate professor of neurosurgery at Yale University School of Medicine. "He is remarkably strong."

"I think he was a great success," said Krack, adding there are only a handful of people who can hold their breath for more than 4 minutes with training.

Blaine started training in December, with some help from Navy SEALS. The water temperature was regulated to help keep his core temperature near 98.6 degrees, and he ate and relieved himself through tubes.

His previous feats included balancing on a 22-inch circular platform atop a 100-foot pole for 35 hours, being buried alive in a see-through coffin for a week and surviving inside a massive block of ice for 61 hours, all of which were performed in New York. In 2003, he fasted for 44 days in a suspended acrylic box over the Thames River in London.

I dont know how he levitates, but its obviously a hoax, since there are certain angles he wont allow people to view him while he does it.

Other than that, I love the guy. His card tricks/street magic stuff is prety damn impressive.

The one that gets me, is how does he throw a card at a window and have it appear on the other side?

The only time I will ever watch that retard david blaine is when he attempts to survive a shotgun blast to the grill.

his levitation is just a balducci levitation

in his "Street Magic" special they do some camera trickery

the reaction of the people is real, they're seeing him do the balducci

the levitation they finally "show" is him demonstrating a wire levitation
ie, he's got a harness, and is being lifted

balducci, and it's successor King's crossing levitation are much more impressive in that they really do look like a real levitation

lemme see if I can get a pic of me doing it
