MORE BLOG: We got a new house!

Postby Harrison » Sat Oct 14, 2006 11:29 am

We just bought a house for $190,000, 5 bedrooms, finished garage with plumbing ready to go to be made into a room as well.

I can't wait to begin working on it and moving in. I'll miss this house we're in now (had it in the family for three generations) but I'm going to love a fresh start.

The only thing that aggrevates me about this is my father still hasn't had a job in 2 years+ and EVERYONE else in the house has and still does. We're all going to be paying the mortgage while he does jack and squat. (working on the house doesn't count, because most of that time will be spent smoking weed and taking breaks to play WoW/EQ2 etc.)

Harrison, how to put this....

Don't spend your youth supporting your parents. Above all DON'T go into debt to do it. If they can't afford the payments on this house without you what will they do if you move out, get married, or any of a host of other things that will/could happen before the mortgage is paid off.

You have to start looking forward and thinking of your own future. You have a good job now and in a couple years you might want even want to buy a place of your own. You can't do that if you're already in debt to your eyeballs from 'helping' your parents.
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.

My mother alone could support the payments. (She's going to force my Dad to get off his fucking ass soon, I know it for a fact.) I don't like to be a "bum". I decided to give her the money and I doubt they would have even asked that much from me to begin with.

300 a month from me is chump change, and MUCH cheaper than living on my own 100%.

I'm gone 12+ hours a day some days, so I don't need an apartment to hold a computer and some small shit at 900+ a month. If I get married? Laff...first thing's first, I need a STABLE (in the head) girlfriend who doesn't do drugs.

300+ a month from my brother, my friend living with me, sister's boyfriend, and I will just make living there much more comfortable.

Nothing wrong with living with the parents if you have a good relationship with them.

I think it is awesome that your family is so close that they take such great care of each other! You are a good son for taking care of your mother the way you do.

Don't worry about your dad. He is probably just in a slump. Sometimes men get that way when their sons reach manhood.

It sounds to me like his parents bought the home and Finawin is just paying rent. I don't think the mortgage is in his name, so he won't be saddled with their debt if / when he moves out. Fin, correct me if I'm wrong.

Did you get a new job or are you still a forklift operator (not knocking it, just asking)?

His mom is working. He said everyone besides his father. That would mean everyone, including his mother, has a job; well, except for his father.

Besides, people used to take care of their familes. Why is it something to make fun of now? Does it make him less of a man that he lives at home and helps take care of his parents?

No, that makes him more of a man. I am not saying that independant men are worse off than Finny.

I am saying, however, that he deserves respect for the way he is helping his family. He doesn't deserve to sit here and have a bunch of people tell him how he is doing the wrong thing by taking care of his family.

I think it's a stretch to say he's taking care of his family. If he was the only person working he would be taking care of his family. He's paying equal share with his brother, his friend living with him, and his sister's boyfriend. He SHOULD be paying rent to live there. He doesn't deserve some kind of medal for it.

Don't devalue what he is doing. He is helping his family. Helping to take care of his family. That is what he is doing.

But he isnt helping do anything. He pays $300, someething I am sure someone else could make up for, he already said he is gone 12+ hours, so he would rarely see anyone in the house. How is he taking care of anyone?

Not knocking living with mommy and daddy or anything, just arguing that he isnt really doing what youre saying he's doing.

I think Harrison is a good person but I agree that it benefits him equally to stay at home so he's not really helping anyone so much as they are mutually benefitting from the whole thing. It promotes family unity and beng close and it's positive overall but he's not being super generous by staying at home or anything.

Exactly...

It works out for everyone involved equally. (My dad just benefits because he's a bum and doesn't want to work. He is happy as a bug in a rug smoking weed and sitting in his room all day on WoW/EQ2/AO.)

My "obsession" with drugs isn't as bad as you make it appear. I just don't want a girlfriend I will eventually fall in love with end up doing heroin, again. I've lost my best friends and people I loved to drugs. I don't intend on losing more because of a fucking drug either.

I do drugs occasionally, I'd say once or twice a month or so I will do something like percocet etc. (I won't touch cocaine, heroin, morphine(heroin essentially), and a whole slew of other drugs either)

I am not against drugs at all. I am against addicts and addictions.
