i got my first raise at my grown-up jobbie, after almost 8 months of employment. WOOT!!

i started at $500/week (this is salaried btw), got a small bump a month or two later, to $515 (which they said was for my 401k--the company doesn't match so they give you a little extra paycheck padding which they intend to be used for 401k purposes), and yesterday it got bumped up to $650. i'm so excited!!!

Don't make that mistake. Live poor and put away your money for when you are older and need it.

congratulations leah =) that is exceptional news, good for you !!!

I agree with 10sun, and think it would not be wise to raise your living standards based on a financial raise. It's not considered a "raise" if you move into a more expensive apartment that increases your spending, you'll likely still be left over with the same amount.

planning too far ahead can get you into trouble. is okay if you do not follow my advice, but I hope you do. In a year, you will have saved enough money to move forward in the direction you're looking for without risking financial trouble because you will have put yourself in a better position to save.

save now, spend in a year. good luck babe =)

Save up and invest. Renting is pretty much the same as burning money.

ps. I hope you are getting enough benefits, bonuses, and other perks with the job to justify what they are paying you =\

I feel ripped off making $750 a week hourly after taxes ><

I'd be pissed if I was making $500 a week salary.

I make that hourly :(

dude, cost of living in nebraska < cost of living where you guys are, durr. my roommate gets paid $8 an hour and does (relatively) fine out here--paying for school, rent, phone, hospital bills, etc. it's just cheaper to live here.

that said, i think i'm living too cheaply now, because i live in a really crappy part of town where there are murders a block or two away and my stuff gets stolen. :( i think it's worth paying an extra $100 or so a month to get me out of this neighborhood. our apartment right now is $450 a month ($225 each) and we're looking at apartments that are around $600 or $625 a month--i'm not talking a huge jump in expenses, trust me. i plan to do a lot of saving and to drive my car (or my mom's) until it craps out and i have to get a new one.

leah about the new car...dont. There is a thing they call the 10 grand start. Say you buy a brand new car for 25k. you turn the ingnition after signing the papers. BOOM you lost 10k. Trust me. By a year or two old save yourself the same stupid move I made when I was your age.

haha oh man i would never buy a brand new car. not only would i not be able to afford it or its payments, but i've been warned many a time about depreciation.

seriously, if i were to buy a "new" car, it would be a 2003ish accord. nothin' brand new for me!

Nice math jackass.

You make 1,000,000.00 annually fetching your uncle coffee?

I think Harrison is trying to say he makes 500 dollars a week working a job that pays hourly.

No fucking shit...

It is funny that an ASIAN proved into his stereotype with the math though.

It had nothing to do with math. It was just a matter of deciphering Harrison speak =P
