Wii

Postby Gypsiyee » Thu Jun 12, 2008 10:49 am

I know this probably belongs in another forum and it'll probably get moved but I didn't want it in the other worlds forum because no one reads it and I want, you know, feedback!

So, lovely boy that he is, Jonathan traded his 360 for a Wii for me for my birthday. So far, I really, really love it, but I don't want the novelty to wear off and get bored of it and love it less.

Smash Brothers got great reviews but so far I'm not too thrilled with it.. what games do you guys love for the Wii? I like silly games a lot - we love the bowling on Wii sports, for example, and Mario Kart so far is great fun. we got Wii play because it looked similar to Wii sports with different games and it came with a free wii-mote but omg is that game just horrid.
what else do we want to get when we go buy our next game? mario galaxy and zelda, of course, but beyond that?

For silly games try WarioWare and Boom Blox.

You're going to get bored of it quickly either way, in my opinion.

The only thing I ever played on it consistently was Guitar Hero 3...and I still prefer 2 over 3 most of the time. (on my ps2)

thanks! anymore details? i could google it, but i'd rather get a synopsis from someone who recommends it rather than thumb through a ton of stuff.

i've actually never heard of either o.O

I don't have real details, just what I read on the Penny Arcade site about Boom Blox. It definitely is a favorite of theirs at the moment, and given how many games they see, that's a pretty good recommendation in my book.

My Wii has been sitting in a bag for months now. I've bought about 7 games now and all have been fun for a couple of hours and then... /yawn

It's a piece of shit console and a waste of money. The 360 offers 10x the value.

WarioWare is a compilation of quirkey mini-games that you try to complete at a fast pace. They are very intuitive and just require quick reflexes, many of these mini-games will make you laugh aloud at how bizarre they are. Its great for a party as there is a survivor multiplayer mode that can support up to 16 people. It is a fast paced elimination multiplayer. You hand the wii-mote to whoever comes up on the screen and they try to complete a mini-game. If they fail they are eliminated, and it goes until there is only one person left.

Boom Blox is a really simple game but you won't put it down until you beat it. The single player is a compilations of puzzles that you have to either throw balls, pull blocks, or shoot blocks. Some modes are like Jenga for the Wii where you have to remove a certain number of blocks without letting the tower fall. Others are puzzles that require you to use an assortment of tools to meet the requirement of that level. The physics of the game are very accurate and throwing baseballs or bowling balls at piles of blocks is very satisfying. It is great to play with many friends, especially drunk and laugh at them fuck up the tower of blocks. There is an adversarial mode for up to 4 people and you take turns throwing bowling balls at each player's "castles".

Also, on July 15th, WiiWare is releasing a Beer Pong game that promises to be very enjoyable.

Get the Wii Fit if you can find one.

PS. If you don't want the Wii console, Toss give me a call. Maybe we can work out a deal

I've got it on craigslist right now for $425 for the whole package. It's in nearly perfect shape.

rabble rouser!

well, I respectfully disagree Toss, but I think the two consoles just appeal to different customer bases. I don't like the 360 because the games aren't fun for me aside from the old xbox games like MK, etc - I don't like the FPS's for consoles, I'd rather play that type of game on a PC.. when it comes to consoles, I like goofy games.

we're definitely gonna get the wii fit, it's one of the main things I wanted for the console.. but right now we just don't have enough room for it til we move out - when we get in our own place, we'll definitely get it.

thanks for the tips, Griever! those both sound like games I'd really like.. I'll pick them up.

and happy birthday to both of you!

Thanks!

Regarding the Wii, it's neat and all but in a few months, you'll agree. It's a Gamecube with a gimmicky controller.

Not everyone is the same Toss. I don't look at it as which console is better than the other, I look at what each console has to offer. The Wii obviously offers a totally different gaming experience than the 360 or PS3. The 360 and PS3, on the other hand, offer a very similar type of gaming experience. I very much enjoy playing all types of games, and if I could I would own every console. But if I had to choose two consoles to choose from it would be the 360 and Wii. If I had to choose one console to choose from, now that might be tougher.

But saying that 360 is better than the Wii is not really fair. It is better for you and your style of play but it could be ideal for Gypsiyee and she may love it each time she plays it.

The wii's only attraction is a cheap gimmick that wears off after a week or two.

It's an AWESOME idea but, in practice it is a massive letdown in my personal opinion.

I can't wait to see games in ten years.

Yeah, Mario Galaxy is great. Zelda was definitely some solid entertainment as well.

Trauma Center is really unique and fun too.

Resident Evil 4 is GREAT on wii if you're into those kinds of games.

Guitar Hero (if you don't have it on another system) is fantastical.

Only other games I've done for wii have been resident evil: umbrella chronicles and metroid. I didn't like them much at all and resold them quickly.

I keep hoping they will release a wii version of katamari, in which you roll the ball by cycling/rotating 2 controllers at once. :/
