Blown subs

Postby KaiineTN » Thu Sep 04, 2008 1:26 pm

So I let an old friend of mine hold onto my subs and amp while I was trying to sell them, since my deck was broken and I couldn't get them working in my car. Well, I found a buyer, and yesterday I went to go pick up the subs from him. I probably should have noticed it sooner, but I didn't until I was face to face with the person that would have bought the whole package. Here's what one of the subs looked like:

Now, I'm no expert on subs, in fact, I don't even know what "blowing a sub" really means other than rendering it worthless. Is that what happens when a sub is blown? The center silver part of the sub is entirely disconnected from the rubber surrounding it. I confronted my friend about this, and at first, he played the "what are you talking about?" card, then he started talking about how the paint was "chipped" and implying it was my fault for having the subs being unused for so long. Then, he attempts to assure me that some super glue will make it as good as new, and tries to avoid any form of compensation to me. You'd think if he was so sure it was just a matter of super glue, he'd pay me for it, fix it, and sell it... But I have a feeling super glue wont do shit, because the moment the volume is at a respectable level, it'll start to break apart again, right?

Am I correct in assuming this sub is now worthless and that my friend screwed me out of the $100 I would have gotten for it?

if the speaker is a good one you can have it refoamed but use the cost as a gauge.
