What are some of the riskiest things you've ever done? Win or lose, are you glad you did it, or does it haunt you?

Maybe it was something like a big investment, or physical challenges, or moving across country, getting in a fight with the wrong type of person, etc. I want to hear some stories!

I worked in a few different movie theaters when I was a teenager, one of which was a tiny three screen theater at our local mall. It was so small that I ran the box office, concession and cleaned the theaters by myself while my manager just sat in his office upstairs.

One day after I finished making a bucket of pop corn for a patron, I noticed he'd left his wallet on the counter. I opened the wallet, found $347 inside, put the cash in my pocket and threw the wallet in the women's bathroom.

When I got home from work, there was a message on my answering machine from my manager. He said that a guy from california was on vacation and left his wallet on the concession counter and that his entire vacation fund was in the wallet. He said that the guy said I must have stolen it but they found it in the women's bathroom so my manager argued that it couldn't have been me.

It haunts me to this day and every time a solicitor calls from a charity I feel obligated to contribute regardless of the cause. So I'll be paying for that mistake for the rest of my life, mentally, spiritually and financially.

Not so much of a "risk" as it is a confession.

Back when I was in the military, myself and a few other guys went to Edmonton to party while we were on leave. As per usual we drank way to much and when we got back to the hotel room we decided that the 8 foot tall Budweiser umbrella that they had downstairs in the pool area was coming back to base with us the next morning. The hotel itself was built around the pool so that for the vast majority of folks staying there, they could just walk out their sliding door to their balcony and see it. Problem was that the pool area gets locked at 9pm nightly. But us being military and also very inebriated, we decided to climb down all 15 stories, balcony by balcony to retrieve it. Our rational was that the 2 of us had just taught a rappelling course a week earlier to the recruits and of course that lent itself readily to the situation at hand,nevermind the fact that we had no gear.... So myself and another buddy did just that. We climbed down,one balcony at a time till we got down there, grabbed the umbrella and then leap frogged it up with us 1 balony at a time till we got back to our room.

It was the greatest escapade ever, our names would become legend! Songs would be sung, beers raised to us. We would be somewhat famous! Well that is until the next morning when we sobered up and came to realize that an 8 foot long pool umbrella just doesn't fit well into a Chrysler Daytona....

Looking back now I can laugh at it. But just thinking about what could have happened, considering the fact that we were drunk off our asses kinda sends shivers down my spine. We did a lot of stupid stuff back when we were in the army (funny how the military and heavy drinking go hand in hand) that at the time seemed like a great idea. But this is one of the better ones where we didn't break to many laws or have run in's with the MP's or local police.

When I was in the Navy a few friends and I decided we'd head to Mardi Gras. This was back in 1989. Only problem is we had to be back the following morning
We left Mardi Gras just after midnight three sheet's to the wind and drove back to Pensacola Florida from New Orleans. I have no recollection of the drive, as I was that gone. I'm amazed we didn't kill anyone, or get a DUI. I was woken up in my car the next morning and showered and just made it to class, still half drunk.

My biggest personal regret was giving up a great director's job in Dallas that I was fast tracking to VP to try and save my failed marriage.

Most of my other risky events involve getting on Navy Helicopters which are flying death traps or eating indigestible radioactive Indian food in the gulf.
