Well I have one for the books. Today I got a call from someone who had a 'problem' with his computer.

Seems the system would not power up. After telling him the standard troubleshooting of "unplug for 5 minutes and try again, if that does not work try a different outlet."

His reply was "well we lost power here yesterday, we will have to wait till it comes back on to try that."

Have you ever tried to keep a straight face when someone asks a question like this?

Gid works for an isp. He got a call from a woman saying her computer wont work. he went through the run down, and when he figured out that it might not be turned on, he told her to push the power button. She said she did and nothing. That goes on for awhile and he asks her to describe what else was on the front, just in case she was hitting reset. She said " Play, FF, Rwd and stop"

She thought her vcr was her computer.

He gets calls like that all the time. They are all from Corsicana, which is where we're probably moving soon, yippee :(

I live in amish country. Most of the systems we build are for amish businesses.

They cannot have computers in their homes but they are allowed compensation for their business. So yes they can be that stupid. and yes we get these calls all them time.

Other calls we get are concerning connection to the interent. When asked what their ISP is they reply "what do you mean?" You finally find out they bought the system, never got a ISP but think the internet comes with the computer.

I repeatedly have to ask if the computer is going to be hooked up to the electric grid. Alot of times we get "no we will be hooking it up to the generator that powers the barn." Which of course is not a tru AC current.

Amish dont know too much about the computer systems they use. They buy them (pay cash) walk out and then ask how they go about turning them on. This is common place in Amish land.

Hell I installed a four port network system with DSL for a small company. This included wiring the barn up and running the lan line cause the house did not have power but the barn did.

I have had a amish guy come in with a stack of 50 blank cd's and asked me how much it would cost to download the internet to cd's. After explaining the function of the internet I get..so what 100 cd's?

I work ISP support. I can attest to the fact that people really *are* that stupid.

It makes me bitter.
