Pit bulls are probably the worst treated breed of dog their is. They are the most popular dog amoung those who want the killer dog. Why? Because they have the rep and they look mean. Any dog can become a killer, any dog treated like shit will become dangerous.
The truth is, the average person couldn't tell a pitbull from many other breeds. If they were shown a group of pictures of different breeds of dogs, chances are they wouldn't even pick the pitbull out of the list. Everyone thinks they can do it, most cant. Many dog attackes are falsly blamed on pitbull for this very reason. I offered this very challege to the people of this board a ways back, not 1 person was even brave enough to guess.
Let move on to this dog beeng a killer because of its breeding. We will talk microevolution her a minute (I think most people agree on this one atleast). Pitbulls are have have for a long time been the top choice in dog fighting. This is partly where they get their really bad rep. What is it that everyone says about them? They were breed to fight. Well now lets look at what these dogs. The ones that are prediposed to attack people will tend to do so. When the owner of one of these fighting dogs gets attacked by the dog, what does he do? He kills it. By dieing early, it wasn't able to pass on that gene that caused him to be predisposed to attack people. The dogs that breed the most, the ones that dont attack the people are the ones who are passing on their genes. Over time, the breed of dog becomes less agressive toward people.
Yes, I can totally see how regulating potentially dangerous animals relates to how many children you can have.
People who raise these animals always say the same thing. "If treated right an animal won't attack." I say bullshit, you can never train away that instinct and you haven't a clue what might set them off. Not very far from here a little girl was crying on her porch when the neighbors 'tame and family loving' pit bulls bust thru their door, knocked down their gate on their fence and mauled her. Another neighbor saw it and got the girl free but died from the bites.
Sounds down right tame compared to what many people (including children) have been seen doing.
For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.
