I thought you worked at McDonalds or Outback or something, since when are you an expert on flooring?

Ok, deal!!! If you are like me, you work an odd schedule, we will have to try to get together.

Paul~ I was working at Outback while I Was living in PA, then I transferred when I moved back to Ohio. THen I quit and started back in the real estate business, and transferred down to TX with Century 21, well when I got here, they cut my pay from $15 an hour plus bonus to $7 an hour. I found another job and they pay very well. I already knew alot about Pergo and Paint and floor and wall tile, etc from when I was a manager at Home Depot about 5 years ago. So they hired me back, and I make really good money now.

Gratz Kizzy. The Home Depot here in Folsom starts you off at $15 an hour if you have expertise in certain field. That's still not enough money though. They also discriminate against Seventh-Day Adventists. When I had my interview with the Home Depot here about a year ago, I told her that I don't work sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. The old bag's response to that was, "Well, this is retail, and in retail, you have to work on weekends." I could have sued them for that, but I like the Home Depot so I just let it slide and went to work someplace else.

You don't understand the U.S. definition of discrimination then. Are you really that much of a dumbass or are you just playing dumb?

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964:

prohibits employers from discriminating against individuals because of their religion in hiring, firing, and other terms and conditions of employment. Title VII covers employers with 15 or more employees, including state and local governments. It also applies to employment agencies and to labor organizations, as well as to the federal government.

so they should be forced to hire people to fill retail hours that won't work those hours?

how is that discrimination when you can't fill a simple qualification of "available to work xxx hours"

For the same reason black people of lesser qualifications get jobs etc. over other qualified individuals...it's bullshit.

Besides, Sunday through Thursday is still very busy at the Home Depot so it's not like they would be suffering or be shorthanded because an employee doesn't work on the Sabbath.

No, that's because Neanderthals like you don't hire black people that are just as qualified because you're daddy taught you about the big bad black man.

That is asking alot for the old "discrimination" card isn't it? They are hiring retail people to work weekends, they aren't telling you no because of your beliefs, they are telling you no because of your schedule. That would be like me telling people we won't work on their furnace or A/C on the weekends because the techs may be in church, I hire people who are available 24 / 7 .

Bubba is no longer my boyfriend, as was discussed in a previous thread, and I've been in Texas since the beginning of this year. I haven't lived in PA in over two years.

How in the world do you get discrimination out of that? You just told them that you wouldn't work Fri night through Sat night in a retail job. Guess what, if you interviewed here and said you couldn't work those hours, we wouldn't hire you either. Retail is a 7 day a week thing, if your not willing to work on a weekend, then don’t be shocked when they don’t want you.

Your comment just strikes me as any person who is always sure they didn't get job X because of their sex or color of their skin. Usually it’s for a completely different valid reason. If your case if because you set a schedule restriction they didn't agree with.

That way of thinking, every job you dont get is descrimination for some reason or another. "WTF you didn't hire me as your CIO because I dont have any tech knowlege. That dicrimination against the uneducated!!!!!!"

The discrimination act includes all these: Age, race, color, creed, gender, national origin, religion, etc.

You can't pick and choose which ones you want to uphold and which ones you want to discriminate against. I guarantee you it would hold up in court. Many Adventists have fought this exact scenario in court and won. The law is the law. There are no exceptions.

I should sue target, They refused to hire me because I wasn't available on weekends. I can just say it was religious reasons. Hell I could make a full time job of it. Just apply to everyplace under the sun. If they hire me, then quit, if they dont sue.

In your line of thinking every other person at Home Depot should be the ones suing if you were hired. Why should they HAVE to work weekends just so you don't have to because of your religion? That's discrimination.

Take it to court, they will probably hire you, schedule you to work, and after about 3 times of not showing up on the weekend you would get fired for not following your schedule.

It's lame to lie about it. There are many, many examples I can provide to show you that it is indeed discrimination, and employers are taking an expensive gamble by discriminating against someone because of their religious beliefs. Here's one example:

http://news.adventist.org/data/2001/06/ ... ex.html.en

There are tons of suits just like this. Do a Google search and find out for yourself. Now, if you disagree with the law, that's one thing. But you cannot say it's not discrimination, because it absolutely is (without question) a blatant discriminatory act that can have severe repercussions.
