There's no way I'd buy toys for the kids of my cousins. I've got over 30 first cousins. :)

My mother had 5 brothers and a sister and my dad has 5 sisters and a brother. Makes for LOTS of cousins.

Heh, I have zero first cousins. My mom was an only child, my dad has 1 sister who was only married once but had no kids, and never remarried after she got divorced. I've only got 1 brother myself, and all of my grandparents have passed away years ago now. So, rather small family, really.

wow, that's crazy arlos. we have a smallish family, too, but that's REALLY small!

my mom has two sisters and a brother. one sister has three kids, the other has two (plus a couple stepkids but all of the "kids" in that family are well over 20), and the brother has a huge random family... two stepdaughters, two daughters, a son, some random cousin-type people who live with them, and both stepdaughters have multiple kids, as does one of the daughters. that's a crazy family, man, and they're totally cool. although my mom's sister has the coolest kids--joel, a college freshman, and derek, a high school junior. they're about the coolest guys i've ever met. their brother is kind of a whiny pussy though, which makes me sad for him. especially since his brothers are so cool. maybe he'll grow out of it.

my dad has one sister, who has one daughter. that's a pretty small side of the family. very interesting side, though--very cultured and artsy and stuff.

hehe, keep in mind Darc doesn't work and flying 4 people (well 3 or 3/12) across the country isn't cheap. Not to mention at that time I will be on military pay.

Anyway, I know my family. They wouldn't want anything but to see our kids, they dont even want to see us just our kids.

Well, the family's a little larger than it might seem, I have a ton of 2nd cousins, (both grandparents on my dad's side had lots of brothers and sisters), but I've only met them once or twice in my life for the most part, so I don't really count them.

Even being small, the family's got some interesting history. On my dad's side, you can trace one line to back before the American revolution, to some Dutch settlers that came over in like 1660. My mom's side, her parents fled Europe just as WW2 was getting started (and after my grandfather had been forced to go to Rome and design battleships for Mussolini), they fled to the Philippenes, where they spent the war in a Japanese prison camp, where my grandfather was one of the leaders of the resistance and nearly got beheaded for it. Post war they did the jet-set thing for a number of years, before settling in California in the late 50s. So, I'm simultaneously the kid of 1st generation immigrants and at the same time the scion of a family that's been here for 350 years.

You are a liberal. Liberals believe in evolution. Foundational elements of evolution are natural selection and genetic drift. Your family is selectively being downsized. Your belief system is killing you off. Stop believing in evolution before you make yourself extinct. :mindia:

Well, the check engine light has nothing to do with your brakes. That is probably nothing more than an oxygen sensor gone bad in your exhaust system - not a big deal. Your break warning light, however, IS a different matter. And, you're right it will get more costly to wait. The break warning light doesn't come for worn shoes, so it is certianly something a lot more serious.

i don't remember if i mentioned this or not, but as part of an article for smart computing i am testing a CarMD device that supposedly can be plugged into my car's compuper and then into a USB port for diagnosis. while i couldn't get the software to work (apparently not my fault, so says the SC editor--CarMD is having stupid issues), the device did display a code for what was wrong. p0420--most likely an oxygen sensor or the catalytic converter. so good job, diekan.

my question: how expensive is it to fix an oxygen sensor? or, worse, how expensive will it be if my CC needs to be replaced (and for that matter, how likely is it that that will be the case?)?

the "fix-yer-brakes" light is still on, although the device didn't mention anything about the brakes... still, i've been down that road before and still plan to get the brakes fixed asap.

and finally, how much do you think it will cost to fix the handle on my hood-release lever? i have no idea how it broke off in the first place, but it is definitely something i'll need to fix before i even think about selling the car. same thing with some body work on the front bumper... thoughts on the cost of that?

oh i just want to rid myself of this car.

I've had to do various repairs to my car recently. Currently the only issue is the break pump. The mechanics tell me that I should replace it. I'm waiting till next month so I can afford it more easily. Other than the breaks giving out, what's the worst that could happen?
